Requested move

[edit]

Walker has never been known as Walker-on-Tyne it has always been known by the local populus as simply Walker, the Walker-on-Tyne comes from an error in an American book about Eric Burdon who was born in the area. Norbutt2001 14:55, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Walker-on-Tyne" gets quite a few hits on UK-based sites (EG[1]). Walker is a disamb page. Any specific ideas on a specific new name? Niteowlneils 17:34, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The reason it gets so many hits is because Walker is located in Newcastle Upon Tyne so search for Walker and you do not get anything relevent, but search for Walker and Tyne and of course lots of hits are obtained. The local's (of which I am one) do not know it as Walker-on-Tyne and always refer to it as Walker and the City Coucil class it as the Ward of Walker. The only reference to Walker as Walker-on-Tyne appears in an unoffical biography of Eric Burdon. Best suggestion for an alternative is Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne Norbutt200118:34, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The move seems fair enough to me, although "walker-on-tyne" does indeed get more Google hits than "walker, newcastle-upon-tyne" (that's with the exact phrases, not just the words on the same page). I wonder though if the move ought to be to Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne (note the small "u") or to Walker, Tyne and Wear for consistency with other pages? sjorford →•← 18:21, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
The only issue with Tyne & Wear is that it would only be accurate if it was a separate town but it is a district of Newcastle upon Tyne so Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne would be better. As a native of Walker I can absolutely assure you that Walker-on-Tyne is incorrect, proir to the area being called Walker it was commonly call "Monkchester and the Walker" but at no point in history has it ever been Walker-on-Tyne.
Okay, Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne sounds about right then. sjorford →•← 15:45, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed after the result of a move request. violet/riga (t) 13:51, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
