Please refrain from changing the last reference date to 8 November 1944. Novotny's death was announced on the 9 November 1944, one day after he died. Please look it up in the Wehrmachtbericht if you don't believe this. MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:02, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Death

Should we add that that was in Blazing Angels? (It depicted him attacking Tom, but then the player drops behind him and knocks one of his engines out. Then the White 8 crashes into a building after screaming "I will not die like this!")—Smithx807 ^Talk 15:12, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Two or three Me 262 victories?

The introduction states that he achieved three victories with the Me 262, but below only two are mentioned (a Liberator and a Mustang on his last combat mission). Can anyone help to clear this? --KnightMove (talk) 08:13, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Style

It it just me, or does the following bit read like he "recovered" from being killed:

“ For the rest of his combat career, the superstitious Nowotny always wore the trousers [...] – with one exception, his last sortie, at Achmer on 8 November 1944, when he was killed flying the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter. Nowotny quickly recovered from his ordeal and on 31 July claimed a Beriev MBR-2 flying boat north-west of Saaremaa and an Ilyushin DB-3 bomber south of the island. ”

Typo in source?

"... und errand damit seinen 215. Luftsieg ..." from Die Wehrmachtberichte 1939-1945 Band 2, p. 582. - The word "errand" is not german and should be spelled "errang" (to win, score, achieve). I don't have access to this publication, so I can't verify if the typo is in the source material also. ----- 14:54, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

nowotny wasnt born in austria indeed but spent most of his childhood in vienna and schwechat and i guess those cities are situated in austria. :)

He WAS born in Austria. In the town of Gmund in the Austrian province of Carinthia. 5th February 2007

Um, in the article it said he was shot down by an American. Not a Russian. Perhaps you were thinking of Franz Schulte?—Smithx807 ^Talk 15:14, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

FWIW, IIRC Pierre Clostermann mentions in his book The Big Show Nowotny being shot down by No. 122 Wing 'rat catching' Tempests while he was returning to the airfield to land. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.147.13 (talk) 17:51, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Facts of Walter Nowotny's last mission ?

The Messerschmitt Me 262 article states : "He claimed two P-51Ds destroyed before suffering engine failure at high altitude.[34] Then, while diving and trying desperately to restart his engines, he was attacked by other Mustangs, and forced to bail out.", This article states : "Nowotny radioed that he had downed a B-24 Liberator and a P-51 Mustang before he reported one engine failing... Many witnesses observed Nowotny's Me 262 A-1a Werk Nummer 110 400 (factory number) "White 8" dive vertically out of the clouds and crash..." - no mention of bailing out. I don't what what is correct, but Wikipedia articles need to be mutually consistent. Rcbutcher (talk) 06:35, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
