problem

[edit]

The Kidson track is currently (3rd Quarter 2012- 2nd Quarter 2013) under heavy use having been recently refurbished by several companies working in conjunction with the Traditional Owners. There is currently some mineral exploration ongoing in the area with many road trains using the track.

The track is not normally open to the public without a permit and indeed can be dangerous to travel without being integrated into the journey management plans of the major users. At present permits are only being issued to commercial vehicles for safety - illicit users may come across anything from a convoy of 3 trailer road trains to cranes, graders etc. This can be especially risky at dune crossings.

Public are warned at the head of the track not to use the road currently and asked not to use it illicitly for their own safety. UHF channel 40 (trucker's channel) is used extensively especially at all corners and hills to announce to oncoming traffic that you are coming.

The track also passes through several culturally sensitive areas. If using the track (Illegally) please do not leave the track and respect the beliefs and wishes of the traditional owners.
