One of the Youngest fraternities?
Does that mean that almost no fraternities have been founded since Lambda Chi Alpha was started? Pzavon 01:48, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- I believe it's generally phrased "the youngest of the largest <some number> fraternities". One of the youngest would indeed mean that few fraternities have been founded since 1909 -- clearly not a true statement. Regardless, this ought to be an article on Cole, not LCA, and so I don't think it is much of an issue. Cole's graduation
Hmm, I didn't know that there's no record of his graduation. I only took it from his being refered to as “Warren A. Cole ’12”, but being class of 1912 is certainly not the same as graduating then. The Paedagogus doesn't say anything about his after-college life. I guess I'll remove my assertion until there's better information. — gogobera (talk) 19:08, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Does being a founding member of a Fraternity make someone notable?

- The fact that he is the founder of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, does indeed make him very notable. With over 300,000 members, Lambda Chi Alpha is one of the largest social fraternities, making Cole well known among collegiate Greeks. Cole was also greatly influenced by Freemasonry. - Hmmm... This is essentially a "Notability is not inherited" issue. Certainly Lambda Chi Alpha is notable... the question is whether the notability of the fraternity transfers to its founder. I could certainly see having a subsection on Cole within the Lambda Chi article, I am less certain that we should have a stand alone article on him.
- One of the problems is that the article relies heavily on sources that were self-published by the fraternity... WP:NOTE calls for secondary sources that are independent of the subject to establish notability. I would be much happier if this article could cite more sources that are independent of Lambda Chi, (a general history of fraternities and sororities, for example), independent sources that mention Cole. - Notability of Cole has certainly translated among the Fraternity's members. In fact, due to his notoriety as the founder, he's probably more well known than most individuals referenced on WP. I don't see an issue with this as a stand alone article, although I agree with the statement that more outside sourcing is needed.
