Move to the Roosters

[edit]

I don't like it any more than you do, but the article makes it pretty clear that he's gonna go. The page should reflect this until new information is brought into the light. The "player revolt" business is pretty obviously just media hype and isn't encyclopedic information. I did get the year wrong though, thanks for that.--Jeff79 06:32, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes

[edit]

While Don't die with the music in you is the name of Wayne's book, I don't think he was the first to use that expression. The book contains several quotes that Bennett has taken from other famous speakers, and I think in it he attributes the title to one of those people. I'm sure a better example of a Bennett quote could be taken from the book.--Jeff79 23:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Record?

[edit]

Is Bennett's tenure with the broncos a record for a coach in rugby league, or for that matter, either rugby code? If so, might be worth a mention.--Jeff79 (talk) 15:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly within the NSWRL/ARL/NRL, Bennett is second to none in terms of games for one club (which is what I think you're getting at). According to this list though, he is marginally behind Tim Sheens in terms of total number of games coached. In terms of total seasons at one club, I don't have the resources to find out straight away unfortunately. mdmanser (talk) 15:16, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually was referring to time with one club. Might be a record in world rugby league. Not sure though.--Jeff79 (talk) 15:24, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wayne Bennett image switch

[edit]

Looking to resolve a few issues on the Wayne Bennett (rugby league) page. Have tried to enter into a discussion with another user, however this has met with mild resentment, and despite my efforts to start a meaningful dialogue this has yet to bear fruit. Hoping a request for comment can get things moving forward. Basically looking to move the better landscape image to the infobox and the portrait image to the body text. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 14:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

See related discussion here. Status quo is fine as the current infobox image is newer and more clearly focused on the subject (who is also facing the camera). The picture in the body text is of both the subject and the NRL trophy amongst a crowd of people. It is a more appropriate illustration for a section detailing the winning of that trophy.--Jeff79 (talk) 15:01, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is the issue of a Brisbane Broncos player being in the portrait image, a dimension that is possibly better suited to the body text. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 15:04, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Believe that should resolve this issue. Have addressed any problems you may have had with the timeline, and cropped the image to show Bennett alone, the NRL trophy nowhere in sight. Hopefully this can considered a more than satisfactory conclusion to the problems on the page. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 15:18, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously I a very ameniable to the images within the Broncos section being flipped right-to-left.This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 15:19, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And you actually think that's better? Now both pics are down in the body text with a cropped version of one of them in the infobox. Well done Londo.--Jeff79 (talk) 15:53, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes to the first. That's correct to the second and lastly your welcome, but my handle is actually Lando, as in Calrissian. This deal is getting worse all the time. (talk) 16:00, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re your Third Opinion request: Since an RfC has been submitted for this dispute, please conclude or terminate that RfC before also requesting a Third Opinion. I have removed your request from the active requests list at the Third Opinion project, but please feel free to relist it there if your RfC does not resolve your dispute. Infobox

[edit]

Buggered if I can work out why the 2nd Brisbane stint is not showing in the infobox since his pre-NRL clubs were re-added. Is there possibly a limit on how many lines can be used? Doctorhawkes (talk) 10:18, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, Doctorhawkes. User:Theanonymousentry: "St. George Illawarra" is absolutely adequate. There is no need to make the infobox excessively wide for the sake of adding "Dragons".--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:54, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

to present

[edit]

Representative rugby league with England is an ongoing assignment and the position with players is not. In this situation it is to present scenario. Comments invited.Theanonymousentry (talk) 08:32, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is a long-standing and well-adhered-to consensus to never use 'present' for representative teams. You don't appear to have convinced anyone that this should change.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 00:52, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My position is that it is either solely illustrative of match day games played, and thus should not even be there at all, or that it is indicative of what he has done in signing a contract with the RFL which has been rolling for several months and thus should be to present and showing the zero games coached for the England team.Theanonymousentry (talk) 08:26, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm ok with present for coaches of rep teams, as it is a continuous (and sometimes fulltime) position. Mattlore (talk) 10:19, 2 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Once editors see it done here, they'll replicate it elsewhere, then it'll spread onto playing and we've seen what a mess that becomes. Let's just be consistent, shall we?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 01:04, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at Mal, Kevin Walters or Stephen Kearney. Apart from Daley I can't find another current rep team coach that doesn't use present. It is a different argument from players. Mattlore (talk) 08:05, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it might be worthwhile to add it to the MOS, maybe with the need to add a cited source to the article covering the continuing position.Theanonymousentry (talk) 08:53, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Let me get this straight. You actually think the potential cost of this is worth the nothingness that's gained by having a dash where one wasn't previously?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 23:25, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I believe so.Theanonymousentry (talk) 09:07, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What about the dude's resemblance to skeletor??? Someone's incorrectly deleted it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.198.53.12 (talk) 02:20, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
