Tubes

I'm sorry, but I am going to remove the picture of the malboro man in his bed with all the tubes.

I think that its in very bad taste. I understand the need to portray the dangers of cigarettes, but he is a man, a person. He has his dignity, even in pain. It doesn't matter what he advocated in his health, he deserves dignity in death.

Salut. Anggarda.

Have you read the article? That image appeared on TV! It is just as dignified to appear on here as it is on TV. violet/riga (t) 12:23, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
I agree that the photo is not inappropriate. McLaren allowed himself to be filmed because he wanted the image to be seen. He's not being exploited. I understand that images of the sick and dying make people uncomfortable (and I think it's only because thinking about illness and death frightens us, so we tend to avoid it and look away) but removing the image to protect someone's sensibilities and then say it's for the sake of the subject's dignity - what a cop out. I'm offended at the inference that a person loses his/her dignity on his/her deathbed. I've seen people at their absolute best and most dignified on their deathbeds, and I respect that McLaren at least attempted to find some purpose in his illness by allowing himself to be filmed, which of course only means something if it's seen. I agree with the last two posts. The photo represents Mclaren's positive legacy and it seems to me that is what he would want to be remembered for. 128.200.138.171 22:50, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
I agree too. Let's hope a few tobacco company employees see this page and blush. Osomec 23:44, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

NOTE: In Jason Reitman's movie Thank You For Smoking (2005) there's a "Marlboro Man" character named "Lorne Lutch" who definitely reminds us of Wayne McLaren so we definitely have to add that what this character does in this movie is not what Wayne McLaren did in his life. This "lorne Lutch" character dying of severe lung cancer is very angry with Philip Morris. He threats their associate with a rifle but very soon he will cool down and accept a case of 100 dollars - and decides to stop his fierce campaign against cigarette smoking. It is a shame that this movie tries to spoil Wayne McLaren's memory that's why it should be clearly noted that Wayne McLaren never stopped his campaing trying to let the most people know that cigarette smoking actually kills humans.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jepe-cspv (talkcontribs) .
