Debby Ryan version[edit]

It seems to have been given a disproportionate amount of importance in this article. I'm not saying that mention of it doesn't belong here...but considering it was a promotional release as a tie-in to its use in a Disney Channel movie, I'm not sure it's important enough to the legacy of this song to merit such detail and depth (so much so that it is almost 50% of the article!). Nor do I understand why other cover versions of similar merit--such as, for example, being performed by the cast on the TV show Glee--are deemed so unimportant by comparison to be removed. Is the Ryan version a significant enough "re-definition" of the song to make it her "own"? I don't know enough about it to be honest with you, but it's preeminence given here makes me wonder if it's a reflection of the desire of a Debby Ryan fan (or an effort to promote the same) rather than a fair assessment of it's importance to the subject. The applicable guideline here would be WP:COVERSONG. In essence, we do not include cover versions unless that version is notable independent of the original version. Thus, the question is not whether or not Ryan made the song her own (shudder), but whether or not her version passes WP:NSONG.

Most songs are not notable. For the vast majority of songs that are notable, that notability is demonstrated by charting. AFAIK, her version did not chart. The coverage is mostly trivial and/or promotional. IMO, this version is not notable and should be removed. - SummerPhD^v2.0 03:45, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
