Merge

[edit]

I suggest to merge the content of Concerto transcriptions for organ and harpsichord (Bach)Concerto for unaccompanied harpsichord (Bach) into this page. --Francis Schonken (talk) 12:27, 13 April 2018 (UTC); updated --18:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Francis Schonken: would you mind providing your reasoning for the merge? --Nerd1a4i (talk) 19:28, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I started this page 10:33, 15 December 2016, building its content from 18:24, 25 December 2016, starting the other page 18:24, 25 December 2016, building its content from 19:43, 25 December 2016 – for some reason or another things got mixed up with part of the content here, and another part of the content at the other page: if there's only one page, I assume the unique content should come back to the page that was started first. Whether Concerto for unaccompanied harpsichord (Bach) merits to be developed into a separate page on that specific topic I don't know (maybe rather a DAB page). Anyhow, the reason for the merge I'm proposing now is WP:REDUNDANTFORK, too much content shared by both pages. --Francis Schonken (talk) 20:52, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Separate page on organ concertos?

[edit]

Seeing that the description of an individual concerto can get rather lengthy (e.g. [2]), and that there are over 20 concertos to describe on this page, I'd be favourable to splitting the detailed descriptions to two separate pages:

General detailed introduction to & history of the Weimar concerto transcriptions would of course remain on this page, and summarized on the other pages. See also WP:Summary style: "... It is advisable to develop new material in a subtopic article before summarizing it in the parent article. ..." (3rd paragraph of the lead section of that guidance). --Francis Schonken (talk) 09:58, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Organ concerto (Bach) page could also contain the more detailed treatment of the various theories regarding Bach's orchestral organ concertos, leaving a summary of these theories at the Keyboard concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach page. --Francis Schonken (talk) 19:22, 18 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and split the page per the above suggestion. Will shortly be pruning excessive double content, and performing other related cleanup. --Francis Schonken (talk) 17:47, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

For clarity, the expression "Weimar concerto transcriptions", as intended in the article title, is used by Bach-scholars such as:

And several others. --Francis Schonken (talk) 09:32, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
