Inheritance sows confusion

[edit]

This article refers to the Weld-Blundells who are descended from just one member of the Lulworth Welds. He was Thomas Weld (1808-1887), second son of Joseph, himself third son of Thomas Weld (of Lulworth), and who adopted the Blundell name in 1843 as a pre-condition of inheriting the Ince Blundell estate. It is therefore entirely misleading to refer to any other related Welds as "part" of the Weld-Blundell family, as has happened elsewhere on this site. I therefore propose to remodel this piece to remove the misleading impression that all the English Welds are actually the Weld-Blundells. It is more accurate to state that the Weld-Blundells were a part of the English Weld family.--Po Mieczu (talk) 12:55, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For clarity's sake

[edit]

Since the "Lulworth Welds" are distinctly more populous, extant and notable than the Weld Cadet branch, the Weld Blundells, I propose to migrate part of the Weld text into a new page concerning the Welds of Lulworth.

In fact, the page ought to be called "Weld family" since the English Welds pre-date and possibly share a common ancestry not only, with the American Welds, the "Boston Brahmins", who exclusively occupy the page, but with other, probably related Welds, elsewhere in the world. Unfortunately, the current position suggests hegemonic tendencies in the way some topics are edited on this site. Pro tem, I shall call the new page "Weld family (of Lulworth)". I hope this can be met with consensus until an equitable editorial solution can be found.--Po Mieczu (talk) 20:09, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Weld-Blundell familyWeld Family – Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically. OllieTFC (talk) 16:14, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
