Citations needed; unfounded statements[edit]

First off, I'm not sure I understand this sentence:

As important as the federal aid programs that apply to needy Puerto Ricans are the federal programs that do not apply or only apply partially to otherwise-qualified residents of Puerto Rico.

Does it make sense at all? Is it not saying that Puerto Ricans are needy? Isn't it trying to say that federal aid programs are important to Puerto Ricans who need them? At any rate, it seems more like an opinion and I don't understand the point it's trying to make.

Also, the rest of the "Inapplicable federal programs" area does not have any citations and they really should since it's throwing in numbers and facts that seem, to me at least, more like opinions. --Madgirl 15 (talk) 07:17, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:46, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am from Puerto Rico and I understand perfectly the sentence: "As important as the federal aid programs that apply to needy Puerto Ricans are the federal programs that do not apply or only apply partially to otherwise-qualified residents of Puerto Rico".

Needy = mean residents of PR with Low Income or No Income ; otherwise-qualified residents of Puerto Rico = mean working class residents of PR

This page needs a POV tag.[edit]

The article is horribly written and is obviously the POV of someone who does not think Puerto Rico is treated fairly by the US government. Mhannigan (talk) 01:49, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"the less-than-equal treatment in Medicare is especially unfair...". There is no citation for this and it is entirely opinion. No facts supporting this are given. Mhannigan (talk) 01:51, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"unequal treatment in Medicaid, Medicare, EITC, SSI and Food Stamps is conservatively estimated at costing needy Puerto Ricans approximately $3.4 billion annually". No citation. This is a POV and utterly absurd to state as factual. Mhannigan (talk) 01:52, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree. The article, for example, states PR residents can't get food stamps ("not applicable in Puerto Rico") and are shortchanged on welfare in general. But the other Wiki article on the subject contradicts this Nutrition_Assistance_for_Puerto_Rico"...the average aid provided in Puerto Rico has exceeded the U.S. national average ($94 versus $74.79, respectively; 2001 estimate)". The article here does state that Nutrition Assistance Program for Puerto Rico replaced Food Stamps in PR, but it follows this with a (grammatically sloppy) statement about Puerto Ricans losing $500 million, apparently, because of this replacement.

I'd fix the article myself, but my past efforts to improve Wike' (even on non-controversial topics) have been repeatedly sabotaged, and I have more important injustices to fight about. A dedicated and persistent someone else will have to do the job. Nehmo (talk) 13:07, 12 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
