"His motive was to..." - not accurate, I don't think...[edit]

"His motive was to win Chas Quilter's lifetime loyalty"

That was Brian's motive for the coverup, but not for the murder, if I remember. (I say "if I remember" as though I didn't finish re-reading it a few hours ago. The plot is a bit twisted and tangled, though to my mind compelling.) His motive for the murder was to help (along with Clive, again) prevent tapes that Matthew had made (not mentioned so far in the article) of tortures being committed on one of the other children from being made public, I think. Chas needed to be prevented from telling anyone why Brian was so far from campus after curfew, and since Chas was not only also away from campus but there for a reason that could get him expelled (for a lesser charge than murder, admittedly) (romance and sexual involvement with a woman who lived near the cemetary grounds), Brian was able to effectively blackmail Chas into mutual quiet. "6th grader"[edit]

What does "6th grader" mean in a UK context?
Should this be a "6th former", meaning a Grade 12/13 student?
