Westbook - is it named after the birthplace of John Campbell's wife

[edit]

An IP added content without citation that "Westbrook being the name of land in the city of Portland, Maine, from where is wife Temperence Perkins Stevens resided". Being uncited and unable to find a reliable citation, I removed it, but if anyone can provide some reliable source to back it up, feel free to add it. Kerry (talk) 01:13, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the research I did. There is evidence to support that John Campbell of Westbrook was married to Temperence Perkins Stevens:

  • the death of Temperance Perkins Campbell (nee Stevens) on 14 December 1877 confirms that a woman of that name was in Queensland [1]
  • she was the wife of a John Campbell [2]
  • she was married to the John Campbell of Westbrook [3]

This death announcement shows she had a sister who died in Castine, Maine [4] which is 124 miles from Westbrook in Maine

So it seems plausible but not proven that the name Westbrook may come from a place associated with Temperance Perkins Campbell (nee Stevens). Kerry (talk) 01:39, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
