There are conferences -- that's not the issue. Under what authority is this a formal program? You can't capitalize "White House Conference" or "White House Conferences" unless it is the name of formal program. What it appears you are doing is the same oas creating an entry for "Senate Committee Hearing." While of course there are Senate hearings, it is not a specific program, and you wouldn't capitalize just that usage. Cite the PL or other source.Journalist1983 (talk) 19:15, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a specific program, that's the point. A White House Conference is a particular kind of event, apart from the zillions of other conferences that take place at the White House all the time. Am endeavoring to find sources, be patient. Wasted Time R (talk) 19:19, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great -- I looked and couldn't find a source. I know they exist, and perhaps there are guidelines. Will be patient. You still can't make the leap in capitalizing "White House Conferences." You are only allowed to capitalize the exact name -- you can't take the shortcut you're trying to take via using plural.Journalist1983 (talk) 19:24, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. It looks like each White House Conference is created by separate legislation—here the White House Conference for a Drug Free America is created by PL 99-570 in 1987, here the White House Conference on Aging was created by PL 85-908 in 1958, and a few other examples I've seen. Not good for me so far ;-) Wasted Time R (talk) 19:50, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

At least you have a sense of humor!! :-)

By the way, you could write a similar wiki entry re White House councils, if you're bored. :-) Journalist1983 (talk) 19:57, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I give up. Sources for the WHC as a program/tradition/whatever are dwarfed by those for specific ones. Will start adding what few references I have. Wasted Time R (talk) 20:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great job. Am impressed. i didn't know that stuff.Journalist1983 (talk) 01:20, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
