Cupid / Joe Penner[edit]

The section about which celebrities the characters are based on is fascinating, but has no citation. Observationally, all of them seem correct, except the attribution of Cupid to Joe Penner. Based on snippets of Penner's performances on YouTube, it's not the same persona or voice. Instead, Cupid seems based on one of the Pansy Craze nightclub acts which George Chauncey writes about in "Gay New York". I wonder if there is any documentation of this.
