Apologies & explication
[edit]I am inexperienced to wikipedia and seem to have made mistakes in the process. I am the person described in this item (Willem B. Drees), as I made clear with the edits (also by using WBDrees as user name). I did not create the original wikipedia entry, but noticed that it had become outdated. The main issue was that it listed me as being at Leiden University, a position which I left by November 2014. Thus, I made some edits to make clear that the period in Leiden had come to an end, while a new position at Tilburg University had started. I intended the changes to be factual; they can be checked via the website of Tilburg University. I will do fiture changes to sites I am involved in or related to, via proposals on the talk-pages. Some proposed changes
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
COI: Last year, I updated some information in this article (Willem_B._Drees), which is about myself. I was corrected as this was inappropriate; my apologies for the mistake. The article had originally been initiated and written by someone else; it is not my own initiative or autobiography. There are various minor details that are not correct. As there was also a request for additional citations, I offer some possible suggestions. I am happy to leave it up to others to see whether any of these suggestions are appropriate and relevant for the Wikipedia lemma. Some issues may also be resolved by taking out information that is not too relevant.
1. The textbox, under “Alma mater", lists three PhD degrees. However, the first (“theoretical physics” was not a PhD, but a “doctoraal degree”, which has a lower status. It is no longer used in this way. Under the Bologna rules for higher education, it is equivalent to an MSc (Master of Science). Hence, either delete “PhD theoretical physics Utrecht University 1977” or modify into “MSc theoretical physics, Utrecht University, 1977”.
2. Textbox, under "Awards" one might add: member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen [1]; [1] )
3. Introductory paragraph: In case the final sentence (“As of January 2015 …”) is considered to need a reference, the Dutch press release might do: [2]
4. Biography, first paragraph: the current note [2] provided is odd, as the information in the text is about my father and grandfather, whereas the note is about my own work. I suggest three options: - As there are references to other articles in Wikipedia, there may not be need for an external reference. - One might offer links to the official website for the history of the Dutch parliament and cabinet; on the father [3] and on the grandfather [4] (again, both in Dutch).
5. 2d paragraph of the Biography - 2d sentence “From 2001 until 2009 he was (…) at Leiden University.” – No, this was from 2001 until 2014 (October). See the press release on the appointment in Tilburg (above, item 3), - “His main research focus was on the influence of technology and ecology on religious beliefs and practices.”[note 3]: The link provided is not effective anymore. Furthermore, I would rather suggest "the influence of science and technology on …” - ‘ecology’ was only occasionally an issue in my work. A remark about science fits the editorship of Zygon: Journal of Religion and Science; evidence is provided by the list of Works, later in this article.
6. 3d, 4th and 5th paragraph of the Biography have no references. A fairly complete CV is available on the web at [5] - In the 5th paragraph, the 2000 Dickinson Distinguished Visiting Professor: [6] - Appointment Tilburg: see again [7] - Inaugural address Tilburg: this one is Open Access available at the university portal: [8] But the link is currently already in note 10, with the Works.
7. Religious Naturalism, 1st paragraph, after note 4: “The analysis of naturalism as addressed in his Religious Naturalism and Science ….” – the title should have been Religion, Science and Naturalism (see [9] ; the link in note 5 is fine for the justification that this has remained a topic also at later moments.
8. Religious naturalism, 2d paragraph: The first sentence, on an IRAS conference: A link to support this information could be [10]
9. References, 11, is a link which is no longer functional. In its place could be: [11]
Again, I am happy to leave it to others which references and corrections are sufficiently relevant for Wikipedia use.

- ^ The infobox parameter where this information was located is for the listings of alma maters, not degrees. Those schools were retained in the infobox. The paragraphs containing information on degrees obtained were deleted as unreferenced.
- ^ This claim offers Wikipedia as a reference, which is generally not done, per WP:WALLEDGARDEN.
- ^ The "introductory paragraph", which in Wikipedia is known as the lede, does not in this case contain a citation needed inline template. Please re-indicate the correct placement for this reference.
- ^ It is not clear what changes are wanted to be made here. Please specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. The request should be of the form "Please change X to Y".
- ^ Specific directions indicating which references should be placed and where they should be placed were not given here (no actionable request).
- ^ The paragraph that this reference was requested to be placed into was deleted, as it contained only See also type directions and did not otherwise contain any relevant information about the article's subject.
Some proposed changes / response to the quote box with reviewer decisions

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
COI: See my earlier message, 16 April 2018, and response by Spintendo Dear Spintendo, Thank you for following up on my suggestions on the Wikipedia article on myself. With respect to the remaining questions and comments:
---
Under Awards: The reference for the election to membership in the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen should have been: [1]. The wikipedia-link was only to a page with information on the society itself. But it can also be left out. ---
Introductory paragraph, note 3 of Spintendo: (a) The reference to the Dutch press release [2] would fit at the end of the 2d paragraph, with “at Tilburg University, the Netherlands.” (b) This 2d paragraph, from "Drees has been the editor ...." until "Tilburg University, the Netherlands." as a whole might also be moved to the end of the section on Biography. ---
With Spintendo’s note 4: (a) Please change the passage “His main research focus was on the influence of technology and ecology on religious beliefs and practices.” into “His main research focus was on the influence of science and technology on religious beliefs and practices.” (b) The accompanying note 5 of the article, to “Princeton People and Fellows” is no longer active, and better be deleted. The evidence for the description is in the list of Works. Or else, just leave the sentence "His main research focus ... practices." out. ---
As the Biography has been substantially shortened, there are no 3d, 4th and 5th paragraph of the CV anymore, and hence no need for accompanying references. - - -
Spintendo’s final comment on the earlier Reference 11, with his Note 6: OK; paragraph has been deleted and hence needs no reference anymore. - - -
I hope with this input I have resolved the remaining issues, and hence the ‘template’ with the article might perhaps be removed. Yours, Willem B. Drees (wb@drees.nl) WBDrees (talk) 07:06, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

___________
- ^ The claim has been left out.
- ^ The reference to the Dutch press release was appended to the last sentence of the introduction. This last sentence of the introduction was then removed from the introduction and placed at the end of the second paragraph of the first main heading after the introduction, namely, the Biography section.
- ^ Despite the suggestion that evidence for this claim was located "in the list of Works", it was not immediately apparent which parts of that list were the references indicated. As the COI editor mentioned, the link in this section was indeed no longer functioning. As such, the sentence and its claims were omitted. However, if this reference is found at another location (or known to exist at another location) please advise asap so that the information can be re-added to the article.
- ^ Despite these deletions, and because Wikipedia has WP:NODEADLINE, any information that you'd like to add or re-add to the article along with sourced citations would be welcome additions at any time, now or in the future. I assure you that any edit requests I receive will be expedited. If there is anything I've missed with your requests here today, or recently, please let me know asap. Thank you!
Vietnam-oorlog
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.124.34.58 (talk) 11:16, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
