I have again removed the {{DEFAULTSORT}} and category from this page, and placed the category on the main article page (the sort template is already there). Mayor number[edit]

Although the convention you cite is used for the US President, it is not universal. See List of Governors of Louisiana for one that uses what is in use here. Or even closer to home, List of Oregon judges#Oregon Supreme Court lists them in order, despite some justices serving non-consecutive terms, and Linder gets introduced as 99th which only happens if you don't give people a second (or third number) for non-consecutive terms. Ditto for the Chief Justice position where even the court's official biography says De Muniz is #41. If you go with the US Prez convention, then you'd have to add something like 18 to De Muniz' number. Aboutmovies (talk) 00:10, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up on Mayor Numbering[edit]

Hi Aboutmovies. I really appreciate your contributions within Wikipedia regarding Hillsboro history topics. Thank you for all the work you've done. If you take a look at the City's website and other sources such as this material from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, you will see that Jerry Willey is consistently designated as the 49th mayor. When one looks at the list of all past Hillsboro mayors and does the math, this would appear to indicate that the City's official numbering system is, in fact, the one with which I tried to bring the wiki articles into accordance. I understand, as you stated, that there is an array of differing numbering conventions in use out there in the world. However, when I said, "per the convention," I was referring to the City of Hillsboro's apparent official convention, not just my own arbitrary preference. I apologize if I gave that impression. Oh, hey, I also want to thank you for your beautiful photos that I've noticed in various places on Wikipedia. Very nice work indeed! Matt (talk) 08:08, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments. I came across the city website item too after I went looking for anything official, but it makes me wonder if the city even has anything official. My guess, since Hughes wasn't numbered and the list of mayors and councilors is fairly new to the website, that the website team simply added up the number and didn't check with anyone. Checking the city council meeting documents from the session Willey was sworn-in doesn't give a number, and I'd suspect it would be the same for Hughes and on back. I think I'll email the city recorder to see if they have anything official, or if it was just done unofficially. Aboutmovies (talk) 09:50, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
