William Daniel (1826-1897) was an American politician. He graduated from Dickinson College, studied law, and began practicing it in Maryland in 1851. Upon election to the state legislature in 1857, he promoted laws permitting local option regarding the prohibition of alcohol. Eventually, 13 of the 23 counties opted for prohibition.

Daniel became president of the Maryland Temperance Alliance when it was formed in 1872. He served as chairman of the 1884 national convention of the Prohibition Party, which elected him to serve as its vice-presidential candidate in the 1884 elections.

"He served in both houses of the Maryland state legislature…" Can we link to the General Assembly here?

No, there isn't. There's a page for the Maryland State Bar Association, but that's a different thing.

"He was elected to a two-year term…" As a practicing lawyer, or did he decline to practice law to jump into politics?

Most politicians in those days kept up their outside employment. I've added some words to that effect.

"...he promoted a law permitting the local option…" Was a law passed, or did his efforts fall short?

It failed, for the time being. Added.

"...daughter of a Congregational minister…" link for the denomination

For "Other political affiliations" in the info box, is there a way to denote all his former parties by the years in which he was affiliated? Or can you just list them off?

It's not clear exactly when he changed affiliations. People didn't register to vote by party in those days, and party affiliation was less clearly defined, especially for people who didn't hold office.
