Dates of birth and death[edit]

In giving the full dates, as opposed to just the relevant years, I did not amend the reference not wishing to delete the current, no doubt highly useful, entry. Carbon arc = "relatively dull" light?[edit]

I don't know where this comes from, but to the best of my knowledge carbon arc lights were seldom used inside for precisely the opposite reason (and, of course, combustion products and arc-eye problems), that is, too bright compared to incandescents. See "arc lamp" article. Moreover, the first incandescent lights were not much more efficient than carbon arcs, on the contrary. Epaulard (talk) 08:38, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
