Dear Lex Ritman, I have been writing a book on Orkney and have become fascinated by the figure of William Mounsey. I wonder if you have been able to to continue with your researches. I wonder what evidence there is for Mounsey having been a spy in Persia. Also what is your opinion on the inscription carved in the Dwarfie Stone? One hears it refers to the Highland midges, but I find this hard to accept. I had the notion this might be a quotation from a Persian poem, but have been advised it is missing a syllable which is essential to the writing of classical Persian verse. Maybe, though, this was Mounsey's mistake. Also what is the book you wrote on Mounsey? Would it be possible to see a pdf of it?

In a way, not much point adding and improving this on the talk page - I would recommend you have a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources and reference the William H. Mounsey, that's the best place for citing your sources. I know it's a bit of a pain to get used to references inline but you avoid a lot of discussion by doing so and show to readers that it has a background in reliable sources. I added an example - it is not a very good reference but you can hopefully see the general idea. One issue that the "References" and "Bibliography" sections seem to include main works. Ideally there wold be one for "References" listing the main publications and another for "Notes" which show the pages number from those references and any web links. Sorry, but you wrote that it was a not to good reference for this article. I printed the example and hope to do more. Before I quit a can make a list of my references, without doing it myself, because I still have difficulties with "how to do it". I hope that you will be so kind to do it. References are not complex in principle, it is just a question of getting the hang of it. Suppose the sentence "Circa 1850 he became an amateur archaeologist, living in Carlisle with his sisters Margaret, Mary and Ann." was sourced from page 25 of William Mounsey and the "Jew" stone (Charlie Emett; 1990). You would add something like: <ref>Emett (1990) page 25</ref>. (Note that if you look at this line in "edit mode" it has extra "nowiki" tages, which prevent it just showing up as "[1]", which is how it should look in the article. You don't have to start a new section every time you respond ;) I've tidied some of them up a bit to make them easier to re-use as well. Residence[edit]
