Lead image

[edit]

Would [1] be a better lead image, or the current one (probably would redo the current one's colours a bit. While the original is a bit dark, so lightening it wasn't a bad idea, it might get a bit better look with some care when doing the levels adjustment. Well, going to presume no-one much cares. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.8% of all FPs. 20:28, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For fuck's sake. I spend literally a month working on an image, and the reaction to a fucking sliver of headroom is to "compromise" by replacing it with a completely different image that A. is full of chromatic abberation and B. appeared in the article much further down, so was used twice. @Emiya1980: Let the people who know what they're doing with images handle images, please, because you clearly don't know anything about historical images, and it's getting frustrating, like I don't want to do anything on any article you might potentially ever edit. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs. 07:58, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not replace the image you used. I just made alterations to the "crop_top_perc" category when editing the Taft article's infobox. If you have that much of a problem with it, do an RFC and obtain consensus opinion on how the image should look.Emiya1980 (talk) 14:47, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really sorry. It was this edit withput a summary. I'll try to be less prickly. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs. 18:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Adam Cuerden As someone still getting the hang of "CSS Easy Image Crop", how exactly would I go about cropping the image from the bottom upward?Emiya1980 (talk) 21:36, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
|crop_bottom_perc = 5
...would remove 5% from the bottom. Though I wouldn't crop too much. That shirt's going to look increasingly weird as more gets cropped. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.8% of all FPs. 22:58, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rfc for William Howard Taft's Lede Image

[edit]

Which of the following images should serve as the infobox picture for William Howard Taft? Teknologi Positif (talk) 10:20, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Teknologi Positif (talk) 10:20, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just making sure that Emiya1980 and Adam Cuerden, participants in the above discussion, are aware of this RfC and the many other image changes (and several RfCs) that have been initiated by Teknologi Positif over the past 24 hours.--Wehwalt (talk) 13:29, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. Teknologi Positif (talk) 13:36, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A is a featured picture, B. is absolutely full of chromatic aberration. Seriously, I'm about ready to give up on doing any restoration of any president. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs. 15:05, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wehwalt: Other than this one (which was malformed), which RfCs might those be? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:55, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Van Buren, but I think you're aware of that. "Several" may have overstated the case, sorry. Wehwalt (talk) 22:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Martin van Buren RfC was initiated by Emiya1980, not by Teknologi Positif, although the latter user has made one comment there. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:00, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here are two additional photographs that have been used in the lede infobox in the last few years:

Bruce leverett (talk) 22:12, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A and C have a common ancestor, but whilst A is cropped, C is lower resolution than A. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:08, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A is of course, the photographer's crop. Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 8.9% of all FPs. 22:36, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrose64, Wehwalt, and Bruce leverett: Do you have a preference for any of the images listed? Emiya1980 (talk) 02:45, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would find A, B, and C acceptable. I don't like D because whatever technique was used to lighten it has resulted in an appearance of ghostly fog.

I do not understand the claim that B has chromatic aberration. How can a black-and-white photo have that problem?

I am embarrassed to be complicating the discussion further at this late stage, but I found the following interesting photo in the Wiki Commons:

This is a photo from Taft's tenure as Chief Justice. I like the relaxed smile. But I admit his tenure as President is more popularly familiar. Bruce leverett (talk) 16:04, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bruce leverett Of AC, which do you prefer? Emiya1980 (talk) 22:01, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really do not have a preference. Bruce leverett (talk) 00:30, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bruce leverett That's disappointing to hear seeing as how you added 3 additional choices on top of the two originally presented.Emiya1980 (talk) 01:05, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A. I have not seen a compelling reason why the currently used image A, which has also been named a featured image, should be changed to image B. Mintopop (talk) 04:54, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am reading some of the replies and I am also not really seeing what is wrong with the current image or why a new image would be better... Jorahm (talk) 16:49, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
