Adam Macqueen's Edits

[edit]

Adam, you left me a message on my page about your edits but you weren't signed in, so I can't easily respond.

I saw the edits to the page and reached for my copy of your biography of Lever; it mentions the traffic accident, which is how I remembered it, but unless I completely missed it there was nothing about diabetes or insulin. So I reverted the article without even looking at the other edits. I confess to being confused myself now, but I'm certainly not going to presume to correct you on any detail or aspect of Lever's life. Have at it. Ben-w 17:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lewis

[edit]

I don't have details or sources handy, but when Lever/hulme left Lewis, only one part - the Stornoway Estate - was gifted to the community. The remainder was split up and sold as private estates; some of which have been purchased by the community in the last decade or so. Anihl (talk) 14:39, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Account of this sale / gift isn't consistent with the Lewis page, can anyone clarify and give references? I've added a bit on the resttlement conflict Grahamsands (talk) 14:24, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added NPOV due to the presence of value judgements in the language rather than neutral reporting. An example of this would be:

"He was also impatient with politicians’ machinations and the laborious indolence of the political system that persisted with the ‘futile land reform’ instead of adopting what he considered the most sensible course of action; to forget about new crofts and allow him, in the interests of expediency, to behave like the monarch of the Western Isles." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C6:660F:1401:7C4F:1B3:48E0:A29D (talk) 08:00, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:William Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Page could talk a lot more about his involvement in the Outer Hebrides, where he had a considerable influence, almost as a petty ruler. --MacRusgail (talk) 18:38, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution of Famous Quote

[edit]

There's debate on the sourcing of the famous quote (see http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:O46zxBfJNRsJ:www.barrypopik.com/index.php/new_york_city/entry/half_the_money_spent_on_advertising_is_wasted_but_no_one_knows_which_half+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us ). Regardless of who said it, the quote used on the page is an unfamiliar variant, and the reference used (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Lever,_1st_Viscount_Leverhulme#cite_ref-Quote_36-0) is _less_ than unverifiable. In short, I know the section is wrong, but I'm not sure what the solution is. Since I've not edited in years, I figured I'd just share with those more experienced.Tonyfelice (talk) 00:21, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
