[edit]I tried to add interesting, nay, important information from the military life of Benn. Somebody, ignorant of the facts described, felt like deleting my addition. I wonder why. I wonder why before deletion, the fact was not checked (remember, because you do not know about it doesn't mean it did not happen)and if my addition needed improvement - why was it not improved insted of deleting it? Comments? Just because I wish to remain anon, does not mean I am inaccurate. If I understand the ethos of Wiki correctly, it collates information from many sources, thus improving its content.... Ignorant censorship, as described above, will destroy not only that ethos, but also the good will of people who could contibute but will not bother! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.193.233.216 (talk) 22:23, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
"Barrelled surname"
[edit]"This British person's barrelled surname is Wedgwood Benn"
What evidence is there that this is really the case? The article itself says "He was given the name Wedgwood because his mother, Elizabeth (Lily) Pickstone, was distantly linked to Josiah Wedgwood of the pottery family". Hence it would seem evident that 'Wedgwood' here is a given name, not a surname. There is a longstanding tradition in the British Isles of giving the mother's maiden surname to her children as a middle name; I expect this is a variation on the tradition, made with an eye to social cachet.
