A fact from William of Blois (poet) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 19 May 2013 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that the major themes represented in the 12th-century dramas written by William of Blois are guile, deception, lust and sexual scheming?
With the kind of structure the article now has - multiple sections, table of contents - the lede has got to summarize the entire article. Instead, the lede that Srnec prefers does not mention the century that William lived in and does not mention his role as a cleric. Instead, it only discusses William's early life and move to Sicily, and dives into detail right away about where he may or may not have been born. If someone stops reading after the lede (which a certain percentage of readers do), they will not have much of an idea of what the article is about.
