Common descriptions of Williamstown and Williamston[edit]

Much of the description of Williamston, MI, including its Geography, History, Economy, Sports Teams also applies to Williamstown Twp. Would it be best to reference the Williamston page, or write a separate description for Williamstown Twp even if some of it is a duplication?

Hmm, some of it is the same, others aren't of course. Self references to other articles unless it is for Wikipedia:Summary style are generally considered bad form. But full duplication isn't good either. I guess do your best to cover the facets of the twp that are important avoiding saying literally 'see Williamston for more', but also minimizing duplication as much as possible. For example the sports teams, you can cover that by saying the school district it is in. There's a Wikipedia:Wikiproject Michigan that you can ask at. Those people would be more likely to help you with the conventions. - Taxman Talk 14:01, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Some cross-referencing is fine, but try to be specific where possible and avoid duplicating significant portions of text. olderwiser 15:03, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other significant items[edit]

The Michigan Meridian is the twp's western boundary shared with Meridian Charter Township, Michigan. Is this Geography?

The civil township of Williamstown conforms mostly with the survey township - "Township 4 North, Range 1 East"¹ (T4N R1E), and the township includes the northern portions(halves?) of Sections 1 and 2 in T3N R1E², that would otherwise be in Wheatfield Township, Michigan. Geography? Is it significant to anyone else?

Williamstown Twp includes parts of four school districts³. Significant?

That seems like pretty detailed stuff, but exactly what I would be looking for if I wanted to know in detail about the geography of a township. Those are awfully detailed points, so keep them relatively short I guess. Of course at that point you should also cover the lay of the land, water, topography, in a similar level of detail. - Taxman Talk 14:01, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The survey township details may be worth noting, though they are meaningless without reference to the corresponding meridian and baseline used as starting points. I suspect there is more to say about the township geography in relation to the survey -- it has an irregular shape -- the eastern boundary is sloped. The adjacent Locke township was originally a part of Williamstown, so it might be interesting to find out why the survey township follows such a line. Also, the partial sections in Wheatfield outside the bounds of the survey township is extremely unusual for a township, so yes that would be worth noting. olderwiser 15:03, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
