The sourced article that was used says that he died early this morning.
https://www.kitv.com/story/41732071/hawaiian-music-icon-willie-k-has-passed-away
However, this article and his official Facebook page say that he died late Monday night.
Which is the correct information that should be used? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 12:11, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- MikaelaArsenault, I'd go with Monday night. Found another source that says that, and the wording on the KITV article seems like it might indicate more "we confirmed this on Tuesday" rather than "we confirmed that 'this happened on Tuesday'", if you get what I mean. Thank you. Can it get moved to the 18th then?

Hawaiian vs. American
[edit]Yes, typically, we use the adjective "American" for people born in the United States - but not always, and often not in cases of Native Hawaiians, as that's a touchy subject with Native Hawaiians. Take a look at Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, Eddie Aikau, Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu, George Kanahele, Kūkahi... the list goes on. William Awihilima Kahaiali'i most definitely self-identified as Hawaiian. He's also identified as such in reliable sources, and I have yet to see one that ID's him as "American". I think this article probably falls into the category of "exception to the general rule". JimKaatFan (talk) 05:14, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Nothing wrong with it. Most Hawaiians live in the US and Hawaii is no longer an independent nation. Seems like making a problem out of nothing to even argue what to use. KAVEBEAR (talk) 06:29, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Forgive me, but "nothing wrong with it" does not seem like a reason for leaving an inaccurate adjective in the first sentence. The other articles I mentioned are also people that live in the US, but they identify as Hawaiian. JimKaatFan (talk) 03:55, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
...Willie played guitar...
[edit]With apologies to Ziggy Stardust 😉. According to the { {Infobox musical artist} } template, a talk discussion should be initiated before adding any instruments an infobox ("If you think an instrument should be listed, a discussion to reach consensus is needed first per: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_musical_artist#instrument"). I am doing that now. Those who know/follow/are-fans of Wille, are probably aware what an incredible guitar player he was, as well as a voice & ukulele talent. If needed, citations should also be pretty easy to find. Anyone who agrees, please chime in. Thanks. A Wikipedia:Rough consensus should be good enough, but a kindly administrator (@Bagumba:) would have to confirm that status. – ░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 23:45, 23 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░
- Aloha @JimKaatFan:, thanks for your edits to the article. I didn't add guitar last week, as the template notes stated that a "consensus is needed first". Maybe no longer? Matters not, you and I agree — and that's sounds like a good enough "Rough consensus" to me. 😊 Regards. – ░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 04:52, 29 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░
- Sources are clear that guitar was one of his primary instruments, if not THE primary one, so I don't see any problems arising from that. JimKaatFan (talk) 06:26, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- Neither do I, but I've learned over the years that "the rulez is the rulez", even if they may fly in the face of logic. I've not seen problems before and then problems came up. I really can't see any here though. And yes, at nearly any Wille K performance, the guitar was THE primary instrument. Regards. – ░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 07:23, 29 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░
- "da rulez is da rulez" shoots brah JimKaatFan (talk) 14:22, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
