Willie Pearse was born in 1881 not 1891. They're a link to the 1911 census form on the Wiki page for Patrick Pearse that gives Willie's age at 29. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000133850/. The National Library of Ireland's web page on 1916 also gives his year of birth as 1881. http://multitext.ucc.ie/d/William_Pearse_1881-1916. Does anyone know the month and day of his birth? Is the error just a typo, did someone just type 1891 for 1881 and the rest of the page follow from that or is someone saying he was born in 1891? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jjc2002 (talkcontribs) 09:27, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious

[edit]

I dispute this:

Pearse Square and Pearse Street, in Dublin, were renamed in honour of both [brothers]

Logainm.ie gives the translation of Pearse Street as Sráid an Phiarsaigh, genitive singular, suggesting it was named after only one person. If it were named after both brothers it ought to be Sráid na bPiarsach, genitive plural. By comparison, Pearse Station is Stáisiún na bPiarsach. jnestorius(talk) 22:32, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the street was named after both brothers back in the 20s - I have no source but I can swear I've heard or read this at some stage - and the Irish translation of the street name is incorrect. Hopefully someone with a source can come and back that up. 142.58.146.227 (talk) 17:07, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
