Merge[edit]

There is a problem that the article about the witch trials in The Netherlands and present day Belgium is divided in to four articles with almost the same text:

The Witch trials in the Netherlands - describing witch trials in The Netherlands after independence in 1579;
The Witch trials in the Northern Netherlands - describing witch trials in the area which became The Netherlands also prior to 1579;
The Witch trials in the Spanish Netherlands - describing witch trials in present day Belgium, which was the Spanish Netherlands in 1579-1713 when most witch trials occurred;
The Witch trials in the Southern Netherlands - describing witch trials in the area which became the Spanish Netherlands even before 1579.

There is a problem that we have four articles with almost identical information. However, it is also true that the history of the region makes the issue complicated. There are some solutions to this problem:

1) merge Witch trials in the Netherlands with Witch trials in the Northern Netherlands; and merge Witch trials in the Spanish Netherlands and Witch trials in the Southern Netherlands, so that the articles becomes two instead of four: one to handle all witch trials in the north and one in the south;
2) merge all four articles in to "Witch trials in the Netherlands", and divide the article in three sections: one which describes the witch trials in both Southern and Northern Netherlands prior to 1579, one for the Republic of the Netherlands and one for the Spanish Netherlands.

I suggest that the latter issue is the best one. Unless some one protests, I will perform the move when I have the time.--Aciram (talk) 15:46, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
