Minor edits and suggestions[edit]

This is a nice contribution to Wikipedia. The content is substantive and seems to characterize women's political participation fairly accurately. In the section that discusses barriers to participation, you might be able to find specific evidence of women who are elected at the local level but are excluded from meetings and activities due to gender and class (caste) differences, especially with Dalit and scheduled castes. This would get at the "on paper" issue, where many things in India look good "on paper", but in terms of actual implementation often fall short. I saw a few typos and grammatical errors that I will fix. I'll also link some of your sections to relevant main pages.Weetie22 (talk) 03:29, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I also suggest linking to the Women in India page and including a photo of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PratibhaIndia.jpg found in wikimedia commons as well as a photo further down that depicts local level politics, perhaps a village meeting scene. Basically ,here we are not talking about the participation,which is not the correct term.Here the info is basically reffering to political aspirations of women with and without criticism in various aspects.In think that this article is a well representation of how a professional article should look. It has links to other articles, a good amount of content and a number of sources. I think the article captures political participation by women in India fairly well. I think there is a neutral voice about the article that meets Wikipedia's standards. One section that maybe could use additional content is the challenges to women's participation. It think it would be interesting to add a section about females and financing campaigns. It would be interesting to see if because females are seen as challenges it is harder for them to raise money for a campaign. There are a few grammatical mistakes that need to fixed within the article but are minor. The illustrations in this article are a welcomed addition due to the fact that it brings something different to the article and brings a little life to the sections. Great and informative article. As far as I can tell, most of the formatting is spot on. There are plenty of links and there are several credible sources to back up your information. The pictures are relevant and compliment the article nicely as well. My suggestion would be to give examples of women's organizations that have helped empower Indian women under the section "Overcoming barriers to political participation." Formatting-wise, I believe subsequent words in a section heading are supposed start with lower case letters, so it'd be "Sexual violence" instead of "Sexual Violence." But great work. Thank you all for the suggestions. I have already added the suggested images and they do improve the look of the article. I am also currently in the process of adding to the challenges of political participation section. I hope to add more information on illiteracy and discrimination, as well as adding to overcoming those barriers. You've developed the article very nicely in response to feedback. I like the expanded "Challenges..." section. The references are extensive and the two photos complement very well. I like your addition of a new Nussbaum article on violence as a barrier to political participation. I do see room for further links to be added. For example, in the lead paragraph "reservations," "women in politics" each is a Wikipedia article, later on there are several other terms that you could link (e.g. child marriage--there is a Child marriage in India article). Not neutral[edit]

This article is not neutral, and gives a distorted view of women's political participation in India. For example, it discusses "Dalit", "caste" and similar stereotypes, but makes no mention of "Dalit" women elected a number of times to state assemblies of India, and even to state's highest political offices (chief minister) - for example, Mayawati. The article has offtopic, undue discussions that are similarly distracting and unencyclopedic. It needs more facts, data presented in a neutral manner and less opinions, speculations. Information from this article was drawn from reputable sources and all have been cited as such. The purpose of the article was to present an objective overall view of political participation, not to specific women. Women mentioned in this article were only given as examples. It was also written on a time constraint so feel free to add more information if you feel that there are things that need to be mentioned in regards to the topic.
