Talk:Women in the enlightenment[edit]

Hello everyone who looks at this page! I wrote it and I just wanted to explain how I went about this. I had this huge plan to write out about the prominent women figures of the time, their social diversity, and contemporary views but it turns out that was biting off more than I could chew. Instead I decided to focus on the main roles that women made significant contributions to the Enlightenment (in my opinion). I'm hoping to add in all the other aspects I wanted too at some future date but it just wasn't happening right now. Enjoy!

style problem[edit]

Women-only Debating Societies[edit]

Could add some specific figureheads that lead the La Belle Assemblee, the Female Parliament, the Carlisle House Debates for Ladies only, and the Female Congress. It would help convey the sense of individualism that is commonly associated with women during the Enlightenment. As well as this, the phrase "Were it really a Fact that these female Orators were any Thing more than The hired Reciters of a studied Lesson, It would be very little to their Honor… But the Truth is….Their lessons are all composed for them; so that they have no more to do with the Arguments they utter, than my Pen has with the Characters I force it to trace", is somewhat unnecessary and should be considered to be reworded or removed.
