Fair use rationale for Image:Wltdrk.gif

[edit]

Image:Wltdrk.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Merge with Carbon Balanced

[edit]

Is there any reason to have the above article, on a programme apparently administered by this WLT org, separate from this main one here? On its own the Carbon Balanced article does not seem to provide anything extra that could not be covered here also, and there's no apparent demonstration of notability present. Suggest that anything that needs to be said about the programmme, could be said on this article on the organising body. --cjllw ʘ TALK 22:00, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a fair comment, and due course sghould be merged, particularly when the carbon balanced website is merged with that of the WLT — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnaburton (talkcontribs) 13:07, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup needed

[edit]

This article has several issues:

  • Much of the text reads like promotional material
  • There are very few citations. There are many (first-party) inline links that could be converted to citations, though there's still a need for more third-party references.
  • Relatively small details are intermingled amongst the overview-scale sentences.

I have made some improvements, but more are needed.

For the record, I removed the following sentences because they seemed to me to be too specific to be notable:

  • "In 2000 a supporter bequeathed World Land Trust Kites Hill, a conservation woodland area in Gloucestershire." (WLT's page on it: [1] )
  • "The partner organisation World Land Trust-US (formerly World Parks Endowment) became Rainforest Trust in 2013."

Finally, a question on the word "patron," as used in this sentence: "David Gower OBE became the charity’s first patron." Google, via Oxford, offers the following definitions: "1) a person who gives financial or other support to a person, organization, or cause. 1a) a distinguished person who takes an honorary position in a charity." Is it clear in British English that the Gower sentence refers to that second definition? To my American ear, it sounds like he's the first person to ever give to the organization. I've thus changed "patron" to "honorary patron" and "official patron," but I'm not entirely pleased with either.

SSSheridan (talk) 08:56, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SSSheridan, I fully agree on clean-up! A lot of unsourced or self-sourced content needs to be removed, and replaced with material sourced to independent WP:RS. Unfortunately there don't seem to many of those; those that I've seen are often quite, or indeed very, critical of this thing – I'll try to add some of them in the next few days. The argument seems to be that it uses private money to buy up land and create private reserves, which are then "protected" from the people and animals whose land it was. Expressions such as "neo-colonialism" and "land grab" seem to be flying around.
The "patron" thing is OK – a British charity commonly gets a notable person (often royal or noble) to lend his or her name and moral support to its activities. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:16, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Page revamp

[edit]

I work as a Communications Officer for World Land Trust and would like to implement the changes made by user SSSheridan on 11 April 2020, found at [link]. I have declared a Conflict of Interest on my user page. Do I need to do anything further? Were there other issues with SSSheridan's edits, or was it just the lack of a COI declaration that meant the changes were reverted? Any help much appreciated. Thank you! Sauntering Ibex (talk) 10:44, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sauntering Ibex, it would be best to us the {{request edit}} template as you did above to make specific article requests. Could you be specific about the changes you wish to see made to the current article? There were many COI edits made before SSSheridan's changes, so that user's changes are unable to be implemented. What I suggest is going sentence-by-sentence (or short sections at a time), having two parts: one showing the current sentence/section, and one showing a revised version after your suggested changes. I have marked your request as answered, but if you have future requests, please remove the "|A" and it will restore the tag. Best, SpencerT•C 22:36, 27 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your helpful reply Spencer and apologies for my exceedingly late one! I will take your advice and go section by section, looking first at the Projects section. Here is how it currently looks. I have removed the references so they don't interfere with the ones I have introduced further down.

Done Thanks for properly disclosing you COI, and thanks for your patience.Handmeanotherbagofthemchips (talk) 15:42, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Projects

Projects include:

Below you will find my revised version. I have created a table showing all currently active World Land Trust projects which have available references. I have tried to use reputable external sources as much as possible, however with some projects I have had no choice but to use primary sources (the World Land Trust website). I hope this is okay. I note that Sussex Wildlife Trust – a Featured List – uses both primary and external sources, so I am hoping a combination will also be appropriate for this page.

I have also amended the project list shown above, removing projects that are now included in the table. This list now shows a small sample of past World Land Trust projects. I have sourced a new link for the Wyld Court/Living Rainforest project as the current one has a 404 error. The list needs expanding and could perhaps be incorporated into a revamped History section. However as per Spencer's advice I want to avoid requesting changes to multiple sections at the same time. Please note that I am a Wikipedia novice and may well have made some errors here, but I am willing to work with an editor to bring the World Land Trust page to an agreeable standard. Thank you!

Sauntering Ibex, I've reverted that edit – it's not clear why we might want this massive table in a rather small article. We don't use inline weblinks in our articles, please see WP:ELPOINTS #2. Handmeanotherbagofthemchips, may I suggest that you acquire rather more experience of editing here before attempting to answer any more edit requests? Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:39, 6 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Justlettersandnumbers Hey there! Sorry if i did something extra stupid, and thanks for reverting me. I just thought that this table seemed nice visually, and it's addition would not harm; i will be more carefull in the future. Handmeanotherbagofthemchips (talk) 14:02, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Justlettersandnumbers Hi, I added this table because it gives an up-to-date listing of all World Land Trust partners and projects. The list on the current page is very out of date. I don't see why this is an issue. As for the inline weblinks, I thought I was following Wikipedia guidelines by providing external sources, as is the case on pages like Sussex Wildlife Trust which is a Featured List?
