Peer Review:

I was really impressed with some aspects of this article. Because everyone in the class is writing about a specific bee species, which is pretty obscure, careful phrasing and ensuring that the information flows nicely goes a long way in making a good article, and you've accomplished that in my opinion. I also really liked the section on male aggression. While you had a lot of information on Communication as well as Taxonomy and Phylogeny, I would have liked to see more information interactions with other species, since this species is solitary and that removes a lot of options from the behavior sections. Overall, I really liked the article! It was concise and relevant. Flynnt2013 (talk) 00:39, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments on the X. micans article! I will look into more information regarding interactions with other species; however, not much research has been conducted on the species and I don't think I will find much. Thanks again! Kulshrestha51 (talk) 21:48, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review:

This article contained detailed information, especially on the behavior of X. micans, but was raw as far as grammar and structure go. I capitalized the section headings. I also made grammatical and sentence structure changes throughout the article. I changed much of the wording of sentences from saying the bee “will” do something to just “does” something. I also changed “can be” to “is” in a few spots. There were a lot of redundant sentences, such as one under the mating section where you stated that the males held territories where females congregate for the purpose of mating, but we already know the purpose. At one point it is stated that nests are rarely observed in nature, which is confusing, as where else will nests be located? There was some repetition in the article such as stating multiple times that X. micans is sympatric with X. virginica and that X. mican’s subgenus is neotropical. I would recommend condensing nest-making information into one section so that it is not repeated in the life history and description sections. Under the human impact section, how does the destruction of these plant populations affect the bee? Kjkozak (talk) 03:56, 23 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your commentary! Unfortunately, I had to revert your edits regarding capitalization of the section headings, since the Wikipedia Manual of Style indicates that only the first word of a section heading should be capitalized unless it refers to a proper noun. Although I was trying to make it possible to access information no matter which section of the article you read, I will try to remove the redundancy from the article. The statement that nests are rarely observed in nature indicates that humans have not found/described the nests of these species, though you are correct that they of course do nest in nature. Thanks again for your comments! Kulshrestha51 (talk) 21:48, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Flynnt2013 that this article was very well written and this goes a long way. The overview is strong - highlighting essential facts along with ones that make this obscure species unique. The rest of the sections follow in this vein by not just including essential facts but also including contemporarily relevant information from research articles about Xylocopa micans. For example I like how you listed its classical distribution, but also included information about how human behavior has shifted its range slightly north. I did find a few minor typos and adjusted those. For example, I made the following changes:

Like other Xylocopa, X. micans create nests => creates nests

Females use strong jaws to vibrate holes in wood, and then burrow to form a nests roughly 8 mm in diameter => to form nests roughly 8mm in diameter

Great Job,

Thank you for your comments on the X. micans article! The changes you made will definitely help clear up the content of the article. Thanks again! Kulshrestha51 (talk) 21:48, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
