Untitled[edit]

I'm guessing this line--"He was appointed Wisconsin Distinguished Professor in 1988 and currently the Wisconsin Distinguished Professor Emeritus"--was written while Prof. Chang was still alive, and should have read "He was appointed Wisconsin Distinguished Professor in 1988 and IS currently A Wisconsin Distinguished Professor Emeritus." Another possible reading of that line syntactically might be "He was appointed Wisconsin Distinguished Professor in 1988 and CONcurrently the Wisconsin Distinguished Professor Emeritus," but most likely those two titles were granted in sequence, the distinguished professorship in 1988 and the emeritus title upon his retirement: "He was appointed Wisconsin Distinguished Professor in 1988 and, upon his retirement in 19??, Wisconsin Distinguished Professor Emeritus."
