I suspect this should read 11.5 litres, since 11.5 gallons is a lot more than 28 litres (something like 52 to be exact!). Later it states that the next model had a 13.9 litre tank...

600 variants?

"Over the years, the XT was built in 600 different variants which, however, usually only look different" 

or it might be

"...the XT 600 was built in different variants...".
