Yaron Kohlberg, born in Jerusalem in 1983, is the winner of many prestigious international prizes and performs worldwide to critical acclaim. He is the son of orientalist professor Etan Kohlberg and the violinist Bat-Sheva Savaldi-Kohlberg, and has an older brother, Ophir. The world’s famous halls including the Kremlin in Moscow, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Severance Hall in Cleveland, Salle Cortot and Les Invalides in Paris, the United Nations hall in Geneva, Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and the New Opera House in Oslo have opened their doors to receive this “consummate concert artist, destined to become one of the world's greatest pianists thanks to the brilliance of his playing, his magnificent technique and his passion for music." He has also performed in London, Chicago, New York, Bombay, the Philippines, Singapore, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Canada, and at home in Israel. Mr. Kohlberg took second prize in the 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition, performing the final round with the Cleveland Orchestra. He earned first prize and two special prizes at the Parnassos International Competition in Monterrey Mexico and the Shostakovich International Competition in Hanover. Additional top prizes in international competitions include Andorra, Tivoli in Copenhagen,Top of the world in Tromso and the Grieg competition in Oslo. In Israel, Mr. Kohlberg has won numerous competitions and earned many awards and citations, including first prizes in the Young Artist Competition of The Voice of Music radio station, the Clairmont Competition, and the piano competition of the Jerusalem Academy. He has been a regular receipt of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship since 1992. Soloist appearances with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, Colorado Strings Festival Orchestra, Bombay Chamber Orchestra, Amadeus Orchestra in Mexico, and Israel’s leading orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jerusalem and Haifa Symphony Orchestras, the Camerata, Raanana Symphonette, and the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble have uniformly earned rave reviews. Mr. Kohlberg has played under the baton of Steven Byess, Andres Cardenes, Aldo Ceccatto, Dmitri Jablonsky, Roman Kofman, Jahja Ling, Mendi Rodan, Gil Shohat, Ilan Volkov, Omer Wellber and others. Yaron Kohlberg performs regularly with Bishara Harouny in the highly acclaimed Israeli-Arab piano duo, with the American duo Parnas in the Parnas/Kohlberg Trio, and with Danish cellist Toke Moldrup. He has collaborated with leading Israeli chamber music groups including the Ariel String Quartet, Percadu, the Quartet for Contemporary Music and the Carmel Quartet. In summer 2010 the WGBH Radio Station in Boston produced a CD in its Classical Performances series which includes a live recording of Mr. Kohlberg's performance of Schumann's Davidsbuendlertaenze, "played with such unforgettable and communicative mastery that he sent all of Schumann's tenderness and humor directly to our hearts". A disc featuring Yaron Kohlberg and cellist Toke Moldrup was released in the Danish CDKlassisk label in May 2011 Mr. Kohlberg's teachers include Luisa Yoffe, Eitan Globerson, and Arie Vardi. He is a graduate of Tel-Aviv University and is about to complete his master's degree from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music.
