Sources indicating 3000 BC(e.g.[1]) seem quite suspect. For instance, they also cite it being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which it isn't. The Medes, according to wikipedia, anyway, aren't even known of until about 900 BC. Possibly this is due to confusion in regards to Christian dates by Muslim writers? I think 3000 years old seems to be a reasonable interpretation of what is meant, so that is what I will put in the edit. Hopefully, someone who knows a little more about this can check up on it. --Marm(t)

It isnt that off if you consider the Jiroft civilization which was flourishing in the region.--Zereshk 14:59, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The second ancient and historic city in the world[edit]

The opening paragraph says: "the second ancient and historic city in the world". What does it mean? What is the first such city - Tehran, Jerusalem, Athens? Most importantly, who says it? I marked it as "citation needed". --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 21:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"The city itself is located at 1203 m. above sea-level, and covers 16,000 km²"?[edit]

16000 square kilometres? That is almost as big as New York City metropolitan area, which is the largest in the world according to List of largest cities in the world. I measured it up on Google Earth and I estimate it to be on the scale of 150 - 250 km².--Rsmelt (talk) 02:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Text layout[edit]

The format of this page is a bit off - for example, the Marco Polo quote slipped into the wrong paragraph. I don't know how to fix this, so I'm just posting that for someone else to change. Also, Marco Polo was a fraud, according to current research. His travel accounts are not to be taken seriously. He probably never visited any of the places he wrote about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.180.255.46 (talk) 19:39, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for future article expansion[edit]

More historical information and sourcing for general information (like the local candies) at the linked EB articles. The EB11 article isn't formatted yet but is available by going to Volume XXVIII and clicking on the scan index for page 919. — LlywelynII 08:01, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
