Purity?

This article mentions several times the "purity" of Yemenite citrons. Can someone please elaborate (in the article) on what this means? Why would any fruit be more "pure" than another fruit? Is this referring to some kind of genetic purity? If so, what is it being compared to? Why would any citron fruit not be "pure" (barring hybridization)? Why is its "purity" so important?
