Yolanda's Voice

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knew of any sources for the Vocal Profile section. This seems to border on original research which Wikipedia does not allow. I must say though that whoever expanded this article did a terrific job! On the whole, though, this article presents a wealth of information with no sources to back it up. Thats why I added those citation and original research flags. Again, Kudos to the person who expanded it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jgcarter (talkcontribs) 17:27, 3 February 2007 (UTC). EDIT: Oops, I forgot to sign my post! Yolanda's Discography

Hey, if anyone's interested... the tracklistings on this article are getting pretty long and kinda tacky. Maybe we should do separate pages for her albums and even make a Yolanda Adams Discography page like say Missy Elliott's or Mariah Carey's. Any takers? Souldier77 08:42, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

If its okay with everyone else...Jgcarter 17:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC) Done Jgcarter 22:07, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
You are... the man. Souldier77 04:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I found this page through a link from Jack's Big Music Showand followed it, just wondering what song/songs she did on that show, but found no mention of it. I understand if it's not relevant enough to be included, but I was wondering if anyone knew what she performed on the show. Thanks.

The song was "The Me Dance" - look it up on Youtube, hopefully it'll be still there

Editing

I did a little copy editing, but someone really needs to get all those track paragraphs under control... they're too long and cumbersome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Doggiewoggie (talkcontribs) 05:44, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

NPOV?

A lot of this sounds like an advertisement for Yolanda, I edited some of it but I could use some help. Jgcarter 20:03, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: NPOV?

I think I got most of the copyvio and NPOV stuff out now. The rest I tried to {{fact}} tag. This stuff should probably be removed unless someone can provide sources. I also did some formating. Most of the article is still unreferenced, so we will need to work on that next and of course we need to move the remaining album covers to the individual album pages before the image folks come by. Vocal Profile

Anybody have an idea as to what her range might be and/or what voice type she has. She sound like she might be CAPABLE of singing in whistle register...

Nah, I doubt it. Yolanda Adams has a very strong soprano voice, but I don't think she sings in whistle register ever! Souldier77 08:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Who says Yolanda is a spinto soprano? That wouldn't be original research would it? Her voice is definitely dramatic.Jdot01 01:12, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree, she is definitely a dramatic soprono. As to her range, I've done some research on her live performances and so far through like 10 videos, her highest note is F#5 at the top of a run with her duet with Fred Hammond. As to lowest, pretty sure it's between F and F#3. —Preceding unsigned comment added by --VN07 02:12, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

I can't agree with you. If you browse through information about singing, it becomes clear that she is a spinto soprano. Range is just conventional here and helps if you are to decide whether somebody is an alto or soprano. But to choose between spinto, dramatic, wagnerian or God knows which kind of soprano, it is timbre and other voice qualities you have to 'analyse'. I had many lectures about voice and I think this is correct. But of course you may disagree. From what I know, the highest note she belted live was G#5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8hPq3HcOZI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xrg-Ie4Heg). And of course A5 in the studio version of 'THROUGH THE STORM'. Lowest note? C#3 in 'Never Give Up'. Her tessitura seems to place itself between D4 and E5. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.87.208.254 (talk) 19:14, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

A Rumor

I have followed Yolanda Adams since 1995. In 2002 a friend of mine had a cassette she had recorded of Yolanda Adams. Somehow Helen Baylors testimony about her deliverence from drugs got crossed up on the tape with Yolanda Adams and you could hear Yolanda singing and Helen Balyor testifying in the background at the same time. My friend said that even though that was Helen Baylor testifying about her delivereace from drugs, Yolnada Adams also had a drug problem that she was delivered from. We discussed this misinformation of hers for 4 days because I have never ever heard anything like that about Yolanda Adams. Does any one know if this is true? If it is I think it's wonderful that God delivered her and blessed her in such a way as He has. I say that with all sincerity as I have been a recovering/delivered addict for 4 years and I know the struggle. I just want to know if anyone can confirm my friends thought or is she, as I believe, mistaken?

The queen or just one of the queen of contemporary gospel music

In this edit, the subject's honorary title was changed to be only one of the "Queen of Contemporary Gospel Music". Now grammatically, that would be incorrect, but that was not the complaint in this revert (other WP:SPA activity aside). There are at least two queens of gospel music (or gospel song) that I know of: Mahalia Jackson and Dottie Rambo. The only one who comes close to this "narrow" definition of "queen of contemporary gospel music" is Tasha Cobbs Leonard. Before we fix this error, I thought I would raise it here. Walter Görlitz (talk) 09:00, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

@Binksternet: Sorry. I assumed this article was on your watchlist and it seems that an anon has now entered the fray. Would you mind addressing the concerns? Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:50, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with Adams being called Queen by Grammy.com, Gospel Music Hall of Fame, or Variety. It would be a violation of WP:SYNTH to bring in other sources and show that Adams is competing with other queens for the title.
Somebody from Texas was inserting "one of the" to moderate the cited text in a grammatically poor manner, attempting to equate Adams with CeCe Winans and Shirley Caesar, which is not supported by the cites.[1] I don't agree to this change at all. The Texas IP range is Special:Contributions/2600:1700:1BD0:9AB0:0:0:0:0/64. It bears further observation.
Another set of disruptive changes has been put forward by Florida IPs from Jacksonville, removing a different "one of" to make Adams' Mountain High album "the best" when it was actually the top-selling US gospel album of the decade, not the "best", whatever that means.[2][3]
The Stingray blog is nowhere near as reliable and established as grammy.com and Variety. I don't think it can be used to modify or contradict. Binksternet (talk) 19:15, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
