Population of York

[edit]

There are inconsistencies in the population data presented in this article. The 141685 figure is a lowering of the previous figure of around 156000, but the city's area and density were not changed and thus not adjusted in line with the population. Furthermore, the criteria used for such a low figure is unclear. The only evidence for how that figure was arrived at that I can find is on this German website: https://citypopulation.de/en/uk/yorkshireandthehumber/york/E63000615__york/ This site indicates that the boundaries used to restrict the population to 141685 exclude significant chunks of the contiguous urban built up area of the city, particularly the area around Huntington. There is no geographical reason to exclude that part of the city and certain others. The Huntington area also includes the Monks Cross shopping centre and the York Community Stadium, both pictured in the article. They shouldn't be pictured if they are not to be regarded as part of the settlement of York. Another inconsistency. Schmegelian (talk) 00:19, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Local government

[edit]

Shall we update the section on governance of the city? Currently it references the 2019 local election results, but this is out of date. Xtrememachineuk (talk) 10:21, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a maintenance tag stating as much. I don't have the knowledge to update the section myself. Seasider53 (talk) 13:49, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GAR concerns

[edit]

After reviewing this article, I am concerned that it no longer meets the GA criteria. Some of my concerns are below:

  • There are sections that need to be updated, such as the "Local government" section talked about above or the "Demographics" section.
  • There is a lot of uncited sections
  • At over 9,000 words, WP:PAGESIZE recommends that sections of the article be split off or removed.

Is there anyone interested in fixing up this article? Z1720 (talk) 04:47, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced sections, orange "updated needed" banners, sections that need updating of recent elections and events, and at over 9000 words it is recommended that the article be split off and information be summarised. Z1720 (talk) 18:02, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
