Merge proposal[edit]

The German-language name "Opernhaus Zürich" is name to both the opera company in Zurich and the house in which it plays. For that reason, the German wikipedia page de:Opernhaus Zürich deals with both the company and the building. The English-language wikipedia page should do exactly the same. Refer to http://www.opernhaus.ch// to see that "Opernhaus Zürich" is simply the name of the company, not just of the house. Mr. Pereira is Intendant of the Opernhaus, meaning the company, not just of the building! 85.1.43.53 (talk)

Copyright issues or not[edit]

If someone is suggesting that using material from a press release is a copyright violation, I am rather (shall we say) surprised! Opera houses issue press releases in order to publicize something. They want the press to use the material! I am sure Zurich would be delighted if this article is developed!

  • The entire history of the opera house is published on the web site above the "signature", "Press Office 2005".

My adaptation of that material as the basis for an extended article was removed with a copyright violation notice laced there instead. Vivaverdi 16:27, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Separation of opera company and opera house articles[edit]

I've removed almost all the material about the house from the Zurich Opera page. Most of it duplicated the info here, but I've incorporated the bit that didn't. However, the ZO (or rather OZ) page said "The house seats 1,238 people". That's not what it says here. Which is right? --GuillaumeTell 21:05, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think one thing is the opera house (the building) and a different thing is the company. They should be separated articles. Opera Houses may have more than one resident opera company/ballet/orchestra. This article should not be merged! --Karljoos (talk) 17:48, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that these should not be merged. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 21:44, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Karljoos that they should not be merged. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 10:32, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Opernhaus Zürich - Sechseläutenplatz 2013-08-31 18-30-40.JPG will be appearing as picture of the day on October 9, 2015. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2015-10-09. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:18, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to change the name of the page[edit]

Like the page for the Schauspielhaus Zürich or for the Bernhard Theater, I think that it would be clearer if the name of the page was changed to its actual name: "Opernhaus Zürich". At the moment the page is called "Zürich Opera House" which is a mix of German spelling of the name of the city and English translation of the name. We should either change it to "Opernhaus Zürich" (which I think would be the best idea), or at least make a full translation with "Zurich Opera House".
