The person (Zaira Wasim) is not enough known to be on Wikipedia. I suggest the current deletion of this article is appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MMXVI (talkcontribs) 16:23, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion: Wording of the 2016-17 controversy[edit]

After having heard from @Prototypehumanoid on my talk page expressing his unhappiness about my edits to the Controversies section, i thought it might make sense to start a topic on the subject here.

Here is what the initial wording sounded like (citing 1 and 2)

Zaira Wasim being a Muslim woman, has faced criticisms from Muslims, that critics say are sexist and extremist. Internet trolls in the conservative Kashmir valley, where Islamic militants in the early 1990s forced cinema halls to shut, questioned the teenager’s moral character for acting in a hit film. In January 2016, when publicity photos showed her with hair trimmed these Internet trolls raised questions on her moral character. She drew further criticism from these trolls when pictures of her meeting with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti emerged. She described Wasim as a “Kashmiri role model”.  In response to these criticisms, Zaira issued an apology. Following this incident, several Indian celebrities came out in support of her and denounced her critics.

and here is what the same block of text looked like after my revision using the same 2 cites

In 2016, publicity photos of Wasim surfaced showing her with trimmed hair for her role in the film Dangal. This resulted in criticism by conservative Internet trolls from the Kashmir valley questioning the teenager’s moral character for acting in a hit film. The trolling increased when photos of her meeting with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti were released. Mufti had described Wasim as a "Kashmiri role model". In response to these criticisms, Zaira issued an apology on her Facebook and Instagram account. This message was picked up by the the media which only fuelled the controversy. Subsequently, several Indian celebrities came out in support of Wasim denouncing her critics.

My edit reasons are clear

  1. the cited articles do not mention that the trolls are Muslim nor that the subject was trolled because she was Muslim. So that bit was removed
  2. the part of the copy-pasted text from the first cite i.e. "where Islamic militants in the early 1990s forced cinema halls to shut" is less important - hence was removed
  3. The change also attempted to bring a sense of time line to the controversies section in general
  4. Overall my edits were aimed at making the text compliant with WP:NPOV summarizing the cited content without losing it's essence, which I think it does.

I am more than happy for any further improvements being made to my version. However, @Prototypehumanoid seems intent on reverting back my changes - without any explanatory comments i must point out.

This section is also my attempt at avoiding an edit war (per WP:AVOIDEDITWAR) before i am forced to seek help from others. -MayureshK 22:40, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Let me point out that MayureshK was the one that started erasing sections without giving reasons, not me. And after I threatened him to avoid vandalising and said that his refusal to do so would force me to refer the matter to wikipedia - he put this post up playing victim. His pleading ignorance on the nature of the attack is also false, since it is common knowledge. Also. notice that the reference to the "Islamic militants in Kashmir valley" itself points to the fact that he is pleading ignorance about. Nevertheless, I am now adding another link that cites that reference expressly.

Each revision I've made has had clear edit summary comments. I was particularly diligent in doing so after you first contacted with me. Given that most articles cited are written by "entertainment journalists" are full of peacock terms and lack NPOV. My intention of edits is to represent facts while remaining adherent to WP:NPOV. Unfortunately you have offered no explanation to defend your content other than claiming malice on my part. I have also noticed that you have reverted my edits without us having reached consensus - again, without no edit summaries. So you are doing what you are accusing me of - changing text "without giving reasons". Based on your latest cites 1 and 2 - The subject is believed to have been trolled by (what the author of quint.com article says "According to other sources" without clarifying which - example of puffery) of the hate-messages being from "muslim radicals" "un-islamic" for having acted in a film. I am more than happy to let this remain. However the bit about "islamic militants shutting in early 1990s forced cinema halls" - makes no sense to me, as thats not what's happening here. The radical elements are directing abuse at the subject, not even mentioning let alone "forcing closure" of cinema halls. This is why I am going to remove this bit.
I am not sure why you chose to revert my text (again, without comments) indicating that the photos of her with hair trimmed emerged in 2016 which is clearly cited in the second cite? Surely that is what would have added to the trolls' claim of being "unislamic and acting in films". Plus per my comments in that revision, the mention of the year helps establish a timeline of events. -MayureshK 19:13, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am hopeful my latest changes should help achieve a decent balance between what two of us are saying? If not, lets please discuss and agree before we make any further updates. Ok? -MayureshK 20:13, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of the image[edit]

Wikipedia policy doesn't allow to use the images of the person if owner has not permitted them to be used as open source. In case of Zaira Wasim she had wrote on her official Social Media accounts that she doesn't allow anyone to use/upload her photographs on any of the platform, she even said that her fan pages should take down the photographs of her. I request the editors kindly remove her Image from this page.🙏 Qwertyuiop84919 (talk) 19:48, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Qwertyuiop84919, could you be specific on which policy you are talking about. As per WP:IUPC, "The legal rights for images generally lie with the photographer, not the subject." and the photograph is taken with the subject's consent. Also see WP:NOTCENSORED. You may raise the issue at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard if necessary. -- Ab207 (talk) 07:35, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 10 December 2023[edit]

Change the image of Zaira Wasim to a more recent one than 2019. This would reflect her better and it would be more accurate concerning her current lifestyle. Thanks!

@Plaxyploty: You uploaded this image under the provision that it is your own work that you have released under CC SA 4.0, but I found this image being used by multiple media organizations. Can you confirm that you took this image yourself and give a link to the place where you first published it? Liu1126 (talk) 16:21, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Liu1126: Note that IPs and new users have tried to remove the current image multiple times in the past. Some even claimed working per the instructions of the subject herself. This image related issue has become WP:POV, WP:COI and WP:OWN. It should not be changed without a WP:CONSENSUS / RFC. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:45, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reading the earlier threads, I agree with your comment. In this case, I'll just close this request for now. Liu1126 (talk) 17:53, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:06, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{Edit semi-protected}} template. Liu1126 (talk) 17:54, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
