[edit]Verified: The "Zax" appears as a character in the Dr. Seuss book, "The Sneetches and Other Stories." (Or more accurately, it is a type of stubborn creature that comes in "north-going" and "south-going.") The OED defines the word "zax" as a "tool for cutting slates."
