that article fails to explain what the Zero-velocity surface is. What is its definition? the article never states. Dauto (talk) 15:35, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect figure?

A trajectory (red) in the planar circular restricted 3-body problem that orbits the heavier body a number of times before escaping into an orbit around the lighter body. The contours denote values of the Jacobi integral. The dark blue region is an excluded region for the trajectory, enclosed by a zero-velocity surface that cannot be crossed.

I think there's something wrong with the figure (right) which appears in the article. When the trajectory touches the zero-velocity surface, it should be perpendicular to it. It should resemble a cycloid with the cusp being on the zero-velocity surface. I wrote to User:Anders Sandberg about this. He says it was calculated using Matlab, but he couldn't find his source code for the simulation. I think he must have made some mistake. Perhaps the coloring is wrong and the zero-velocity surface is not at the edge of the dark blue. If there are no comments, I'm gonna edit the caption to say that it's incorrect.
