Terminology
[edit]This term is the term which is very widely used in authoritative texts detailing warship design some of which are specified in the references I supplied when I created the article some years ago. It has been improved since. The term was certainly in widespread use when warships were designed with defence agaist shell-fire in mind - the concept has lapsed with the development of cruis missiles and, for that matter, nuclear weaponry - and I see no reason why it should be deleted. The concept was an integral part of the thinking of every designer of basttleships and cruisers (at least) in the first half of the twentieth century and, indeed, at the end of the nineteenth. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 21:35, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
