English translation of the original quotes

[edit]

Original quote in Slovak says: „Sila je v súhre. Keď sa má niečo podariť, neurobí to jeden človek a jedna vec. Vždy je to súhra okolností.“

The most authentic translation in English is therefore: "Strength is in interplay. When something is to be done, one person and one thing will not make it (either "happen" or "work"). It's always (either "about" or "a combination of") circumstances."

I speak both languages, and the tone and words that you use in your way scientific translation are far away from the original tone.

While the other English quote in the article (“I am looking for paths to various people, hopefully fate helps me continue this endeavor, which would make me happy. After all, the journey is the goal, and nothing is as important as love...Finding a path to yourself, is in my opinion enough workload for half a lifetime. Even being a woman is tough enough.”) doesn't sound like Maurery's either. Don't put your own words to the actress' mouth. Evernit (talk) 14:06, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Evernit, I want to be able to work with you on this rather than engage in edit warring and bickering. This will, however, require that you also take a cooperative attitude. So far, you have reverted my edits, inserted an edit summary in Czech instead of English, and now you are accusing me of mistranslation and of inserting my own words into the quote. Please avoid making accusations, as it will not help us achieve a compromise on the issue. My contention is that the translation has to make grammatical sense and be understandable to an English reader. It seems like you would rather insist that it be a word-for-word translation of the actress's words, whether or not this makes sense in English. Please let me know if I've misunderstood your argument. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 14:13, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
