Original description for Zygoballus melloleitaoi from: Mello-Leitão, Cándido F. de (1945). "Arañas de Misiones, Corrientes y Entre Ríos". Extracto de la Revista del Museo de la Plata (Nueva Serie). Sección Zoologia. Volume 4: 284.

Gastromicans sexpunctata sp. n.

♀ — 4 mm.

Cefalotórax alto; área ocular más ancha atrás, los ojos posteriores salientes. Los ojos de la segunda hilera más cercanos de los ojos laterales anteriores. Ojos anteriores formando una hilera bien recurva, los medios tres veces mayores que los laterales. Clípeo igual a la mitad del diámetro de los ojos medios anteriores, densamente revestido de pelos sedosos. Quelíceros verticales; su borde inferior fisidentado, el borde superior con dos dientes. Patas anteriores más robustas; sus tibias armadas de 2-2-2 espinas ventrales, sin espinas laterales; protarsos con 2-2 espinas ventrales; patelas inermes; fémures I dilatados, fusiformes. Patas III y IV con las tibias inermes y los protarsos armados de un verticilo apical. Patas IV más largas que las patas III.

Cefalotórax de color caoba, tegumento chagrinée, revestido de escamas angostas, de color crema, los ojos en manchas negras. Quelíceros de color caoba oscuro. Esternón y piezas bucales de color pardo oscuro. Coxas de color crema. Patas anteriores con sus fémures de color caoba y los otros artejos de color crema, con una faja negra en la cara anterior. Las otras patas a orillas claras con la faja negra formada por pequeñas manchas. Abdomen con su cara ventral parda, negruzca; cara dorsal de color castaño muy claro, con tres pares de manchas circulares negras, las anteriores muy cercanas, las segundas más separadas y las posteriores más alejadas aún: entre las manchas de los dos pares posteriores dos estrechas líneas transversales, formando ángulos de vértice anterior.

♀ — 4 mm.
Cephalothorax high; ocular area wider in back, posterior eyes protruding. The eyes of the second row are closest to the anterior lateral eyes. The anterior eyes form a clearly recurved row, the median pair three times larger than the lateral pair. The clypeus is equal to half the diameter of the anterior median eyes, and is densely covered with silky hair. Chelicerae are vertical, with the lower edge fissidentate, and the upper edge with two teeth. The anterior legs are more robust; tibia armed with three pairs of ventral spines and no lateral spines; metatarsus with two pairs of ventral spines; patella unarmed; femora I enlarged, fusiform. Legs III and IV with the tibia unarmed and the metatarsus armed with an apical whorl. Legs IV longer than legs III.
Cephalothorax mahogany-colored with a rough, leathery integument covered with narrow, cream-colored scales. Eyes within black spots. Chelicerae dark mahogany. Sternum and mouthparts dark brown. Coxae cream-colored. Anterior legs with mahogany-colored femora and other segments cream-colored, with a black line on the anterior side. The other legs lighter with a black line composed of small spots. The ventral side of the abdomen is brown or blackish; The dorsal side is very light brown, with three pairs of black circular spots. The anterior pair of spots are close together, the second pair are further apart, and the posterior pair are separated even further; between the two posterior pairs of spots are two narrow transverse lines, forming angles with anterior vertices.

Gastromicans sexpunctata 1945a: 284, fig. 73. HOLOTYPUS female. No 16.785 (M.L.P.) R. Argentina, Misiones: Puerto Victoria. Zenzes col. [= Zygoballus melloleitaoi NOMEN NOVUM. Esta especie as transferida al género Zygoballus Peckham, 1885, donde ya existe Zygoballus sexpunctatus (Hentz, 1845). La especie de Mello-Leitao deba recibir un nuevo nombre].

Translation:

Gastromicans sexpunctata 1945a: 284, fig. 73. Holotype female. No 16,785 (M.L.P.) R. Argentina, Misiones: Puerto Victoria. Zenza col. [= Zygoballus melloleitaoi NOMEN NOVUM. This species is transferred to the genus Zygoballus Peckham, 1885, which already includes Zygoballus sexpunctatus (Hentz, 1845). Mello-Leitao's species must be given a new name].
