11th Chennai International Film Festival

[edit]
  • Reviewed: No review required (not a self-nomination)

Created by Sriram Vikram (talk). Nominated by Vensatry (talk) at 19:06, 21 December 2013 (UTC).

  •  Doing... I'll come up with comments wait. Soham 14:31, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
Apart from that, there is need for citation for some claim which could pose a big threat to the completion of this DYK. Soham 14:45, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
  • The awards section has been already explained in detail prose format under the section, 'Closing ceremony' with refs. Sriram speak up 14:54, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Doesn't matter, they are too big claims to go unreferenced, more so if they are covered in prose why are they featuring again? That might be redundancy. It would have been acceptable had they been in tabular format. Now that I've said that don't convert them into tables, the article is already bit clunky. Soham 15:07, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Referenced one of the claims. The other is a fact; should it be referenced too. It has been the norm: don't know how to reference something that I believe is WP:OBVIOUS. And listing every film does make it clunky. There is a separate 'Awards' section for better visibility. -- Sriram speak up 15:15, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Both claims have been referenced now. -- Sriram speak up 15:26, 26 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks. Soham 13:07, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Let me see. Soham 15:01, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
C/e the article for spellings, tone, grammar etc. I will correct if I find any. Soham 15:03, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Source for the time table of all the films is missing, don't put the source beside all the films just put a note beside the Date & Time. Awards and sponsors are still WP:UNSOURCED. Soham 15:06, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Convert the lakhs and crores into millions please per WP:VNE. If this article is going to be up at the WP:MP I don't want it have figures in lks and cr's. Soham 15:08, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
  • For the list of films that were screened and their schedule, the info is available only at the official site. I would have added them, but aren't sources supposed to be independent? The only other way to substantiate these claims are to scan the schedule that appeared everyday in The Hindu. -- Sriram speak up 01:45, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
*Is behindwoods a reliable source? I have some doubts over it.Soham 15:11, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Don't think it will be accepted as a reliable source. As long as the hook is reliably sourced and no controversial claim is either unsourced or cited with a questionable source there shouldn't be any problem. This isn't a GAN or an FAC where each and every obvious claim needs to be sourced. Vensatry (Ping me) 16:46, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
With that approach was should not nominate an article to displayed at the main page. Each and every source should hold a decent standard, if not then either search for a decent source or remove that claim. This is my opinion has been done in a hurry to remove the cn tags which is not intended thereby exudes a negative vibe. Soham 17:23, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you on the fact that articles displayed on the main page should be of decent stuff. However, the way the review is progressing like pointing out minor issues such as INR conversions, language variations and MoS fixes seems unimportant to me. There are other important steps for a reviewer like check for copy-vio. Vensatry (Ping me) 17:52, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
Behindwoods might not be a reliable source; but the claims that they support aren't controversial. There are only two instances behindwoods have been used (refs #5 and #14). Ref 14 is only used for the venue the inaugural was held whereas the contents of ref 5 is taken from the official press release found at the official site here -- Sriram speak up 01:38, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
I also believe Behindwoods is a reliable source. There are so many Tamil film article using it as a source, even GAs. -- Sriram speak up 02:57, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
  • WP:OTHERCRAP. Venastry I have checked for copy-vios and there seems to be none. First DYK's are always long enough. If you think I am a one word GTG-reviewer then you're mistaken. Moreover you should be content with the pace because its been only two days and I am doing this voluntarily, I don't have court-orders to do this otherwise I will be hanged-to-death. Not only will this review result in a better MP article it will also make the article many-folds better. As for the schedule you may add the official site as they do not claim something over-the-top or extravagant about the fest that has to be verified by other reliable sources.
If you want a bland DYK review then I'll give you one.

DYK Criteria:

  1. New checkY
  2. Long enough checkY
  3. Within policy checkY, since you want an average article to be on the MP I am not commenting.Note:This article has tremendous opportunities in the future with healthy attitude towards WP:MOS.
  4. Hook - This is my concern, it lacks appeal for an international reader. No one if he's not coming from down south will give a damn to which actor won which award. The hook lacks appeal, you know to hook on to the readers attention. Please suggest ALTernate hooks.
  5. QPQ The promoters concern it is, if its BlueMoonset you may run into the same problems Tito did during one of his DYK's. Its not the reviewers call though I suggest doing a QPQ first otherwise it may qualify as gaming the system. Soham 09:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Soham, you cannot expect newly-started articles to be on par with GA/FA. FYI, I have zero actual input to the article. I was helping Sriram with the nom. Highly appreciate your volunteering; as if other editors get paid or whatever to review. As for the QPQ, since this being Sriram's first DYK, I don't think it's needed (I'm just a nominator). If the delegates want one I'll do. Now coming to the hook, I cannot find anything interesting in this article. Being the first major award of a relatively new actor it might be worth interesting. Of course, you're welcome to suggest alts, and many thanks for the exhaustive review. Vensatry (Ping me) 16:01, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes I know this is Sriram's first DYK and I want to help him too and I don't want to be paid for reviewing. I sensed that you rushed things so I said that to remind you that I might be slow. If I suggest an ALT (I can think of none which is interesting) I can no longer continue this review and its pretty fun actually because a new editor has toiled hard enough for it. Please suggest ALT hooks. Soham 17:10, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
I don't think I was rushing, rather trying to point out one thing – Rome wasn't built in a day. If you cannot proceed with the review, leave it to others. Vensatry (Ping me) 18:58, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
Sriram Vikram, can you suggest some ALT hooks which you think might interest the readers? Vensatry (Ping me) 06:28, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
I want to finish it because I share camaraderie with Sriram. I went through with the article and I think that the article does not have any other interesting hook material so I'll give it a go after I fix some minor edits to the article. Soham 06:38, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

ALT1 ... that as a token of respect to Amitabh Bachchan, the 11th Chennai International Film Festival instituted the Amitabh Bachchan Award for Youth Icon of the Year, the first award to be named after him? -- Sriram speak up 09:18, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

ALT2 ... that during his inaugural speech at the 11th Chennai International Film Festival, Kamal Haasan said, "Even Shakespeare will have to learn script-writing"? -- Sriram speak up 09:26, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Awesome. The first one is good but its to close to the 200 characters being a 197 charactered one, the second one is good also in terms of characters (155) but not as much interesting as the previous one. Can you condense the first a little bit? Soham 09:29, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

ALT1 ... that the Amitabh Bachchan Award for Youth Icon of the Year, instituted in the 11th Chennai International Film Festival, is the first award named after him? -- Sriram speak up 09:41, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Well done, 155 characters supported by ref #10. GTG. Do you want it to appear on a special occasion? I mean on any special date you want it to appear on the Main Page? Soham 09:46, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
  • How about January 3, considering Sholay re-releases that day? -- Sriram speak up 09:50, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Okay ALT 1 GTG for January 3rd's Main Page. Soham 09:55, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Great. Thanks for the review. -- Sriram speak up 10:00, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Making a slight modification to the hook as below..

ALT 1 ... that the Amitabh Bachchan Award for Youth Icon of the Year, instituted in the recently concluded 11th Chennai International Film Festival, is the first award named after him? -- Sriram speak up 18:05, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

ALT 1 GTG for January 3rd's Main page. Soham 06:03, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
I have trouble finding "is the first award named after him" in the article. --PFHLai (talk) 07:35, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-12-06/news-interviews/44862814_1_music-composer-anirudh-bollywood-icon and http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-11-30/news-interviews/44595225_1_ciff-chennai-international-film-festival-french-filmmaker-claire-denis support the claim. Soham 08:16, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
These news articles are about the first winner of the award, but there is no info about the award being the first award to be named after Bachchan. --PFHLai (talk) 10:08, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
This award is named after Bachchan, bachchan has no other award = WP:OBVIOUS. Soham 11:11, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
PFHLai is right here. I don't think it's an obvious fact. We need a source that explicitly mentions that this is the first award instituted after AB. Vensatry (Ping me) 11:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
May I suggest a hook about who won the inaugural award? You have the refs ready. --PFHLai (talk) 11:42, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Yes please. Soham 11:46, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

ALT 3 ... that composer Anirudh Ravichander won the inaugural Amitabh Bachchan Youth Icon of the Year award at the 11th Chennai International Film Festival?

ALT 4 ... that the Amitabh Bachchan Award for Youth Icon of the Year was instituted in his honour at the recently concluded 11th Chennai International Film Festival? -- Sriram speak up 11:44, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

  • ALT 4 GTG. Soham 12:01, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
