General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Not sure the pic adds much to the DYK. I wouldn't bother The-Pope (talk) 15:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

The original hook could be better. Is there a better, more reliable ref for Rhodesia being the only non-Test team to have beaten them than the semi self-published(?) https://springbokrugby.webs.com/rhodesiavsnz49.htm article? The-Pope (talk) 15:50, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
@The-Pope: I don't see a problem with the hook. It is straightforward, truthful and hooky. The hook isn't claiming anything about the non-test team statement here. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 19:32, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
It's not that hooky if you're not familiar with rugby. I'd argue that the All Blacks are famous enough that even non-rugby fans are likely to at least have heard of them, but non-rugby fans may not understand why this loss is such a big deal. I'd definitely recommend going with The-Pope's suggestion about mentioning the non-test part since that would raise general interest. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 22:40, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: I have amended the hook as you suggested. Please can you approve it? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 18:00, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
Comment:Suggesting:
ALT2 ... that Māori were excluded from the Allblacks in the 1949 Rhodesia vs New Zealand rugby union match to comply with apartheid laws?
I have added an academic ref re Māori exclusion from the 1949 tour as a backup, as the sources used in the article aren't of a particulary good quality. The use of the NZ flag seems rather obtuse, given that it is barely visible in the article and it only represents the losing side of the match. Felixkrater (talk) 18:24, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
No thank you, I much prefer the original as it's more hookier. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 18:36, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
Pinging The-Pope to take a look at the revised ALT1 and to respond to The C of E's comments. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:12, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
Just a drive-by comment - I think Felixkrater's suggested ALT2 is of more general interest. ALT0 is just "DYK that one team beat another team?" It is hookier when the "non-test playing" opponent is included. As an alternative hook, I suggest turning it round so the All Blacks, known to many, are first:
ALT3:... that the All Blacks were once beaten by Rhodesia, a non-test rugby playing country?
I would also suggest that the last sentence in the article, "Rhodesia on the other hand would never win another game against a touring side prior to 1980", should be edited to reflect the fact that in 1980, Rhodesia became Zimbabwe. As it stands, it could be read as suggesting that Rhodesia won a game/games after 1980. RebeccaGreen (talk) 02:56, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
I am fine with that @RebeccaGreen:, thoguh have made amendments to clarify and remove redirects. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 12:38, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Looking into this some more, I think that it might be a very rare event that the Allblacks played an international against a non-test team, so being the only non-Test nation to have beaten them may not be such a big deal, as very few have even played. The Allblacks have lost many tour games against regional or club - rather than international - teams. On that tour alone, they also lost to Border and Eastern Transvaal, who according to this ref, Rhodesia would have played against in the Currie Cup. I have sent a message to http://stats.allblacks.com if they can add a summary table of results, but I'm not going to wait for it, or do some WP:SYN/WP:OR and download the 1300 odd game results and work out who else they've lost to! Also, I'm not a copyright expert, but if the 1949 photo of the scoreboard is allowable as a free image (it is PD in Zim, but not PD in the USA), then that would be much better than the flag. If not, then I'd recommend no image, and ALT3 (with the extra link I've added to Test match) as the best hook. The-Pope (talk) 13:02, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
@The-Pope: OK, can you add the green tick then please? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 11:47, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
ok, thought I had changed the tick. I've copied the alt3 hook it of the comments to the top. Any decision/agreement on whether the other image can be used? i really don't think the flag adds value. The-Pope (talk) 02:08, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
The hook could always run without an image. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 14:17, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
As the All Blacks failed to reach the final (Ha ha ha!) and I have just nominated the final article with the trophy for the day too then I fully support us not using the flag. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 11:21, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and removed a dead link. Please provide a source for all the information under Details. Yoninah (talk) 22:51, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Restoring tick per The-Pope's review. Yoninah (talk) 10:48, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
