Abbey Brewing Company

[edit]

Monastery of Christ in the Desert

Created by Skyerise (talk), 7&6=thirteen (talk). Nominated by Skyerise (talk) at 21:02, 23 February 2015 (UTC).

  • I corrected the hook (the boldface link should be on the article name, not on the description), and also added a link for Prohibition. Yoninah (talk) 00:36, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Thanks! I've only done this twice before and that was quite a while back... Skyerise (talk) 15:31, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
  • The article is only 1479 B (248 words) "readable prose size" (must be 1500). While is may seem close, the article has some content that is not relevant: Do we need to know the founder "holds a degree in chemistry from Rice University" and that "Other personnel include Berkeley Merchant (business manager) and Brother Christian Leisy (cellarer)." The italicised text in the following sentence is also irrelevant: "According to Chris Goblet of the New Mexico Brewers Guild, Abbey Brewing uses solar energy in its operations." I also cannot verify the hook; it's supported by an off-line source and I can't find an online source to verify this. I used a Google search for: "Abbey Beverage" Prohibition. AHeneen (talk) 07:57, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
The company's name is "Abbey Brewing" not "Abbey Beverage", you'd have found the book source at Google books if you'd done the search right. Skyerise (talk) 00:58, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry. I think I was viewing an article which used "Abbey Beverage" and just copy-pasted into the search box. Probably the LA Times article ("the Abbey Beverage Co., one of the monastery's main business ventures") that is a ref adjacent to the fact used in the hook. I found the source, but the article is still too short. AHeneen (talk) 02:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
Well, that's funny, because I get 1901 characters now, was getting 1700 when I submitted it. Not counting anything but text. Skyerise (talk) 20:14, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
This tool to determine article size, gives the following output for the current revision (15:17, 26 February 2015):
  • Prose size (text only): 1479 B (248 words) "readable prose size"

I'm reasonably certain that B(bytes)=characters, but have asked for clarification and a second opinion here. Note that the DYK eligibility criteria provides that nominations over 1500 characters can still be failed. As mentioned above, the article contains a couple cases of irrelevant prose. AHeneen (talk) 00:15, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Let's just expand it. No need to spend hours picking fly shit out of pepper. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Then everybody's happy. 7&6=thirteen () 00:26, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
I agree. That's the easiest fix here, but the creator/nominator insists it is an acceptable length. AHeneen (talk) 00:49, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Comment - There's a much larger problem, in the fact that the entire "History" section is unsourced. WP:DYKDN — Maile (talk) 01:08, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

The text I just put in needs a citation with an appropriate link. Somebody should be able to fix this. I don't know why I have a problem getting a stable URL. It is from the Abbey Brewing Company home page. I know where it came from, and you can find it too. See the article's talk page including its deleted history. 7&6=thirteen () 01:14, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Good for you, User:7&6=thirteen for helping resolve issues with this nomination. I'm putting a turn-around tick here, so a complete review can be done with all the criteria.— Maile (talk) 13:21, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
We are past the size issue. I would appreciate being listed as a co-creator in the nomination. 7&6=thirteen () 13:25, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Needs full review. — Maile (talk) 00:34, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

  • DYK checklist template
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Passes DYK checklist. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:45, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

  • The connection between the image and the hook is not clear. Isn't that the Monastery of Christ in the picture? Yoninah (talk) 01:21, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Definitely the monastery, which includes (I think) the nanobrewery. But I don't know that the picture adds much to the hook. 7&6=thirteen () 12:59, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I agree. The image doesn't really add much to the hook. AHeneen (talk) 19:43, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
We need a picture of a brother feeding a kettle, or testing (imbibing) the brew. Just kidding. 7&6=thirteen () 20:13, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
