Aguilarite

[edit]

Aguilarite from Mexico

  • ... that while it is uncommon, aguilarite (pictured) is known from at least five continents?
  • ALT1:... that aguilarite (pictured) was thought to be orthorhombic until further study in 2013 proved it was monoclinic?
  • Reviewed: Star Trek: Insurrection
  • Comment: The fifth continent is Australasia (if the definition of continent is an issue, please suggest an alternative)
I think my ALT may be a bit too specialized for the DYK audience, but it is only a suggestion

Solid scientific article on good sources. I am not happy with the hooks, the second - you said so - is very special and would not make me click. The first: the counting of continents is not the same for all people, I would mention what the thing is, and perhaps add "named after Mexican explorer ..."? Just ideas, you word it, please (or we need another reviewer), --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:44, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
How about these:
ALT2 "... that while it is uncommon, aguilarite (pictured) is known from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australasia?"
ALT3 "... that the mineral aguilarite (pictured), named for discoverer Ponciano Aguilar, is uncommon even though it is known from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australasia?"
In my opinion, the contrast of uncommonality and wide distribution is probably the most hooky. I noticed that one source (which I added to the sentence on locations) specifically mentions Australia as a location, in addition to New Zealand. Chris857 (talk) 17:44, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • What do you think of this?
ALT4 "... that the uncommon mineral aguilarite (pictured), named for discoverer Ponciano Aguilar, is known from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australasia?" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerda Arendt (talkcontribs)
  • Yes, that is cleaner. I like it. Chris857 (talk) 01:41, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
, offline sources accepted AGF, wording of ALT4 preferred, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:19, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
