Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Bibikov[edit]

Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Bibikov
  • ... that Aleksandr Bibikov (pictured) was first enrolled into a regiment at the age of three? Russian book source: "На третьем году жизни он был записан в л.-гв. Измайловский полк унтер-офицером" - "In the third year of his life he was enrolled in the Izmailovsky Life Guards Regiment as a non-commissioned officer"
    • ALT1:... that Aleksandr Bibikov (pictured) fought part of the Battle of Berezina from a sleigh? - "On 16 November Bibikov, with his militias, took an active part in the battle, but as the wound did not allow him to ride, he commanded while sitting in a sleigh, and when the whole team [of horses] was killed, he resorted to leaning on the shoulder of one of his adjutants."

  • Comment: Note that the difference between the date of the battle in the source, and in the wikipedia article Battle of Berezina is due to the use of Old Style and New Style dates. The book (published in Russia before 1917) uses the Old style, while the article uses the new style.

  • Article is new enough, long enough, neutral, and well referenced. Both hooks are interesting (I like ALT1 slightly better) and supported with Russian sources, accepted AGF. QPQ is done. No copyvio found. Image looks good and is public domain. Good to go. -Zanhe (talk) 04:02, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, and editing the article to reflect the source about the sleigh. Shouldn't the hook say:
  • ALT1a: ... that Aleksandr Bibikov (pictured) commanded the Battle of Berezina from a sleigh? Yoninah (talk) 21:44, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
  • It's perhaps a more literal translation of the Russian, but doesn't really make the distinction between command of the entire force - which "commanded the Battle of Berezina" would imply, and command of a part of it. The Russian force at Berezina was commanded by more senior generals, while Bibikov was in charge of his militia regiments under their orders. Perhaps:
  • ALT1b: ... that Aleksandr Bibikov (pictured) commanded his forces at the Battle of Berezina from a sleigh? Spokoyni (talk) 21:51, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Good, thanks. Restoring tick for ALT1b per Zanhe's review. Yoninah (talk) 21:56, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
